Beverly Girl
Hi guys, welcome to Vents! How have you been? Hey, thank you so much! It’s been a hectic month for Beverly Girl with the release of the new music video. There have been lots of emailing and meetings people! Can you tell us more about the story behind your latest track, DNA? Sure! BG has always been into sci-fi and futuristic themes, and now was the time to do a song dealing with cloning. There’s a lot of responsibility involved with today’s technology and in BG’s opinion a part of the whole technological development is going in a wrong direction. The song itself is a short story (although not an obvious one), which is something BG does every now and then. Usually the songs are about emotional stuff. How was the recording and writing process?
The song itself was written by BG’s guitar player Artur, who writes all of the material. The songs are then worked together to make them sound the way they do. Generally, Beverly Girl does not work in traditional studios. All of the recording and rehearsing is usually done in a special working space - an old basement warehouse inside a huge building; which used to be a medicine factory many decades ago. The place is definitely as cool as it sounds! Where did you find the inspiration for the song and lyrics? Good question, although it’s a difficult one to answer. For some reason, and with many other kinds of music, the songs come out the way they are, both musically and lyrically. BG has had a couple of different musical phases starting out as a very typical synth/R&B band, evolving into an underground electronic funk/ rock group, and evolving yet again into what it sounds like today.
Does the new single mean we can expect a new album? How´s that coming along? Little by little BG is self-releasing singles until the time comes to team up with a label. There’s been talk with several ones though, so that might change very soon! Is there any tentative release date or title in mind? Not yet, the title will be something very funky and glamorous though! How did you guy come up with the idea of inviting dancers on your live performances? It was just something that happened very naturally. During BG’s first show there were a lot of dancer friends in the audience, and they just sort of invaded the whole stage at some point. It was a crazy party, and a great feeling of unity. BG tries to do it every time it’s possible to arrange, since it’s always a great
feeling to share the experience with people who appreciate and contribute to it. Do you have any plans to hit the road? At this moment BG is performing at clubs and events around Finland. Hopefully it’ll be possible to expand soon though maybe we’ll get a chance to tour in the UK in the near future. What else is happening next in Beverly Girl´s world? Lots of time is being spent tracking and editing the next single, and getting ready to release a second music video in November. BG has been having discussions with a couple of labels and managers about future releases, but nothing’s been signed yet. So there’s been quite a lot of stuff going on actually. Let’s hope Beverly Girl will make it in the UK soon!
