I Hate Heroes Welcome to Vents! How have you been? We’ve been great! We’re spending some time enjoying the beautiful weather, but also keeping super busy with writing music and doing stuff as a band. What’s the story behind the title? The title reflects a lot of the meaning behind the songs. Everyone hits rough patches in life with a lot of obstacles to overcome. The title is essentially saying that if the opportunity was possible, we’d all have that one section of life we’d love to skip over. How was the recording and writing process? The writing process was basically that the guitarists played around with different riffs, and once they found a riff they both liked they built off it. Once a full song was written, we had the bassist lay down his parts, and shortly after the drums. Once a full song was instrumentally written, we passed it off to our vocalists to come up with the lyrics and song structure. We took the songs to Ricky Armellino; which was our producer for this EP, who was fantastic to work with. It was a smooth process in the studio, spanning over a couple weeks, until the EP was complete. Where did you find the inspiration for the songs and lyrics? We knew what direction we wanted to go in with a diverse EP, including a pop-punk song, a few well-structured metal songs, and an acoustic, so we tried to base our writing around that. We wanted to try to do a good job of encompassing and show casing both Jimmy and Ephraim’s vocals on the tracks. Lyrically, a lot of what you write tends to come from the emotions you’re feeling at that given time. The lyrics are based on current

and prior life experiences. How did you come up with the idea of blending poppunk and metal together? We all have varying music tastes ranging from acoustic to deathcore. We decided to find some common ground and pick a few styles that we all enjoy playing and writing and put them together in a way that seems to work. We like to try to have a little something everyone can enjoy. What role would you say influences like A Day to Remember and Crown the Empire play in the band? A Day to Remember definitely plays a solid part in our chorus writing as well as our pop punk songs. It’s one of Ephraim’s biggest influences, so you’ll find some ADTR influenced vocal melodies in even our metal songs. The Crown the Empire influence encompasses a lot of the two-part vocals where they do a great job of blending screams and clean vocals together. They also have a great way of keeping songs heavy but with an upbeat tempo that you just want to jump to. Do you have any plans to hit the road? We definitely want to hit a lot of the States we didn’t get to this past year and meet some of our fans. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we are currently looking to hit the road sometime in the next few months and trying to plan a few tours for the upcoming year. What else is happening next in I Hate Heroes world? We have a lot of upcoming plans that we can’t really say too much about yet, including things like new music, new merchandise, and a lot more, but we’ll keep you posted on all of our media platforms to stay up to date on all of the latest news!
