Negash Ali
Hi Negash, welcome to Vents! How have you been? Thanks so much! I’ve been awesome thank you! Can you tell us more about the story behind one of your latest tracks, Wandering Soul? Well, initially when I moved to London I didn’t know too many people but I was intent on hitting the ground running, so I would hit the town on my own and I feel like that song kind of portrays how I felt around that time. Also, it just speaks to the feeling of being rootlessness. Did any big city in particular influence the song? Yes, London. What was it like to work with Jacob Jeffries and Mr. Green and how did those relationships develop? It was in LA and New York over the summer. I didn’t know any of them prior. I met Jacob through this very nice guy, Jeff. He was booked in the Warner studio before I was, and Jeff just
introduced us. I went back and heard his music the same night and knew his vocals would fit the vibe of the track perfectly. We were crossing paths the following day and I asked if he was up to do it and so we did it then. Mr. Green is a guy I’ve known, due to a mutual friend called Bijan. Green’s an awesome guy. I had just gotten off of the plane and I went to visit him in Brooklyn. From there, I basically asked if he was up to shoot the video and we just knocked it out. The video is simple yet has some very cool effects. Was the whole concept based on an idea of Green or did you play a role its conception as well? Green is a wiz with his camera, so I can’t take credit for the style it’s shot in. We just kept it spontaneous, walking around the Lower East Side, and we found this place where the lights was busted and flickering and we just kept the locations flowing from there, the whole thing took an hour or two to shoot. I’d like to give a big thumbs up to the editor Justin Ulbrichtsen as well.
o as the l e perience? It was dope man! It felt powerful. he single co es o your ne Millennial Man. hat s the story behind the title? Honestly, I won’t be able to hit the nail on the head and communicate what that means to me. I think it’s a generational thing, speaking to our temperaments and our lifestyle. o as the recording and riting process? It’s been a special one because it was scattered all over the place but it’s been great - a little in London, a lot in L.A., some in New York and then some in Copenhagen. here did you nd the inspiration or the song and lyrics? I found it in real life. I always talk about what’s going on at the time.
ould you call this a ollo up or a departure ro your pre ious s? I think its sort of a mix, and something completely new. Everything is just steps of elevation to e. t s about finding y true expression. Do you ha e any plans to hit the road? Yes, there should be release shows coming up soon. I will keep you up to date! hat else is happening ne t in egash li s orld? A lot of stuff: new material, moving to a new country again and just grinding towards becoming the legend I wanna be.
