At the beginning of this year I feel I was really concerned about the aesthetic of my work, as I progressed through the year I was able to really consider what I am trying to say and communicate with my work. Another big turning point for me was when I began to actually really consider what I like and the work of professionals I like. Through 505 I was able to create a body of work that I am really proud of and confident with, by inspiring my practice by what I love and making work I like I began to find my feet again. I had a really rubbish start to this year, I was thrown back by not really understanding this and it took a lot of contextual development this year for me to feel like I can do this. I do feel so much better since I have really engaged with the course this year, although it was a real struggle I feel I have progressed so much since level 4. By the end of this module I have began to explore involving fashion and culture into my practice as this is something that really excites me. My summer commission really boosted my confidence and helped me introduce colour into my practice. It also opened up a new door for me and helped me consider how I could apply my illustrations to transform a space. Through 504 I began to consider symbolism and introduced shape into my practice, from this I was able to reflect on the kind of work I was producing and how it wasn’t personal to me. I found a better understanding for how I communicate and this was developed though response as I began to consider more the target audience I want to approach. I was really able to refine everything I’d learnt from the year and it all seemed to piece together! My creative report, although I wasn’t able to actually speak to a professional I feel I produced a rather successful report. I really enjoyed learning about Laura Callaghan and it was really reassuring to find she had felt similar to me. I don’t think I could have selected another illustrator who practice relates so well to mine. I really found the lectures useful this year and also chatting to the tutors I feel really helped develop my contextual understanding. Life’s a pitch was really exciting to create a collective, I feel the ideas we produced were promising and it’s something we want to take forward in the future. I do feel I used my blog quite effectively to document my progress, although I wasn’t able to blog about the trips I went on due to my time management, I do feel like they did really benefit the progression of my practice. I feel I created a good body of work for this module although I do think its missing some area where my time management didn’t allow me to finish all my blogging. Through my creative report I was able to find out Laura Callaghan’s process which has inspired me to adapt this into my practice in the future, Callaghan follows a daily routine. By finding a daily routine it will let me have a clearer view of how I’m organizing my time effectively. I feel like a slow start to this year really through me off and I didn’t begin PPP for a while, I therefore wasn’t able to finish blogging all the trips I went on and the artists that inspire me as this would have really benifited my practice.

I really want to begin applying my illustrations to clothing and I’m also really interested in mural art and I’d like to develop on this further. I also want to spend my summer doing fun things like a ceramics and spin course. I also feel like I didn’t go to enough galleries and exhibitions to inspire my practice. I felt inspired after writing my repost on Laura Callaghan to make some illustrations in response to the real world issues covering issues that are relatable to my generation. Through this year I’ve learnt that shape and colour are really important to me. My aim for the summer is to just get making I really find what I like making.
