5A1 Demonstrate a critical understanding of the aesthetic, cultural, historical, technological, social, political or other contexts relevant to individual subject disciplines. (Knowledge and understanding) (Research / critical awareness)

I demonstrated good understanding of research and contextual knowledge, I used the library resources to find material and develop ideas which I have evidenced on my blog. I also use the resources on estudio to help find promising text on my chosen theme.

5A2 Demonstrate an awareness of the relationship between the theoretical and practical contexts of their own creative concerns. (Knowledge and understanding) (problem analysis/definition)

My approach to the practical journal was very promising, I had some great ideas to begin with. I think there is a clear connection between my practical work and my essay and it explores a medium I have never considered before

Satisfactory

5B1 Evidence the ability to use logic, reasoning and critical judgement to analyse ideas from a range of primary and secondary sources. (Cognitive skills) (Critical awareness)

My blog is evidence of this, at the beginning of my initial research stages I delved into aesthetics flowing some further investigation. From this I was to change course of the direction of my essay. Critical writing can be found on my blog in response to texts, books articles and images I found.

Good

5C1 Evidence the capacity for undertaking practical and theoretical research that demonstrates an informed application of critical, effective and testable processes. (Practical and professional

My visual journal explores concepts and ideas of fashion within my essay, although it is very lacking as I really struggled to find time for it. I feel the process of college worked really well and Is a process I'd like to take forward from 501. I didn’t manage to blog any of the practical module which I feel really stumped the progress of my visual

journal.

5D1 Organise and carry out selfdirected projects and communicate outcomes through written and other appropriate forms. (Key transferable skills) (professionalism / technical competence / visual quality)

I really struggled with the independence of this brief and less contact time meant I really got buried under. Blogging through the beginning helped me establish ideas and form a promising essay. Through revisiting my initial ideas I was able to find a topic I was interested in.

I really struggled at the beginning of the term to find anything I was interested in and I didn’t understand the importance of cop. This meant that my whole project fell behind, It wasn’t until I finally had a chat with one of the tutors that I understood cop purpose was to explore the field I am interested in. Beginning this project so late meant I want able to produce near enough the work I was expecting. I found cop a really daunting subject and began the year feeling really unenthusiastic. I attended all cop session and lectures and I feel they helped me find a subject theme for my essay. I found cop as a whole really challenging, I began my research by exploring aesthetic but when I tried to combine this with the work of Laura Callaghan I found myself In a real rut. I didn’t really find my feet with cop until the end of the year and this took me understanding where I want to extend my practice in the future. I have always admired fashion and I am keen follower of trends so it seemed perfect for me to write an essay on the subject. I feel like my essay could have done with a bit more time and dedication as I feel I could have supported my argument better through finding more resources. Although I attended most of the cop session I was really rubbish at the start of the year at blogging as I go, this is something I feel I am slowly improving on. I feel my start to the year has really let me down and Its really infuriating because I feel if I had asked for help and guidance I would have been able to complete all the work for submission. For my visual Journal I explored a completely new way of working with collage, which I struggled to get my head around at first but I feel it’s a process that I want to continue exploring. I made use of the college Library vogue magazines and collected hundreds of images from the 70's, 80's and 90's as I want to investigate the fashion trends of the time of subculture. The idea was to transform through college outfits inspired by subculture to create a collection of my own. I feel this idea was really strong and promising and worked well with the media. Cop has allowed me to really develop my practice and find a direction that I am really excited about, I am feeling so disheartened by this all because I'm really excited to explore the possibility of combining my skills with fashion, but I feel like I am not going to get anywhere at the moment because I have let myself down considerably. Researching into Trends and Subculture has really influenced my practice as it has given me the tools to understand the fashion market better. If I was to approach this again I really would like to have thrown myself into the module more and not been so scared, I found I couldn’t begin my visual journal until I had written my essay which meant I left very little time for me to document my process and explore different methods

further. I feel my blog is really lacking In process and development due to feeling so thrown off from this module. Overall I really enjoyed writing my essay and finding the initial research, attending the cop lectures meant I was able to find a theme that was substantial. I found writing the essay really interesting and through my research for Cop 3 I am going to explore the application of art to fashion and how my practice can exist within the industry and I felt inspired by the artist that I came across.
