Study Task 5
Where am I now? A Visual Evaluation Lydia Jones OUIL402
Understanding illustration I have developed an understanding of what makes an image a illustration and the purpose it has to communicate. Illustration is creating images that serve a purpose, say something or capture something untold.
My use of media When considering what earlier work I wanted to reflect on I came across my digital painting of a giraffe it encouraged me to consider more digital processes and to not shy away from them. I really enjoy character design although I find myself over working my drawings following my love for realistic drawing. Through one of my visual language tasks I was given the freedom to draw a composition, when drawing characters I struggle with creating their surroundings., this task helped me tackle this . Realistic is something I know I can do and in order to develop on my drawing skills I need to push myself to draw more free. To push myself to draw more free I am going to rely less on reference imagery.

Understanding a brief I am slowly understanding the process of being set a brief. Research, roughs and ideas, development, and feedback to create a final piece. I have found the change from A levels, where I lacked motivation a lot and did little work compared to now, to trying to drive and motivate myself constantly rather hard to get use to.
Drawing Skills Until recently I have been struggling with pushing myself to be adventurous. I have played it rather safe with the brief so far and I want to challenge myself more, I will address this in the briefs to come.
Developed Personal Taste This course so far has opened my eyes to the beauty of different media. I have found a new love for shape, It is something I am rather scared to try but I really want to push myself to explore it in my future work. I also have begun to appreciate artwork that is more free, fun and playful. I am trying to encourage myself to work quick, I want to develop and challenge my style.

Drawing Skills I have finally found an understanding of roughs and the importance of repetition. By drawing something again and again I am able to refine and craft my illustrations, also repetition helps me understand what I am trying to draw, I learnt this in my visual narratives when creating my book, by drawing my characters again and again I was able to understand how my character would move and change.
Personal Management Something that has been a big learning curb for me is time management. I am a leave it till last minute person and this I feel is limiting my development In my drawing skills. This is something I have reflected on and am going to address in the briefs to come by forming ideas straight away and being on top of it an through planning my time effectively.
