Lydia Jones OUIL401 “To what extent does advertising construct our idea of gender?”

I began by looking at hundreds of ads that captured gender stereotypes. I then began researching into articles to find starting points for my essay, I found gender stereotypes and the way in which women are portrayed and objectified in the media fascinating.

Ads stereotype women to be mothers, cares “Women are Labeled as mothers, cares or as a subservient to a man.

Sexually provocative ads “when ads are more sexually provocative, men in particular are irresistibly drawn to them.

Violence to women “The view of violence to a woman creates a sense of empowerment to the male.

Women are objectified “Women are seen as objects, sexual being viewed for their form and desire.

Men are stereotyped as providers, businessmen “A strong stereotype which can be inferred from imagery of men in advertising is a successful businessman.

Men are in competition with one and other always men are born like mammals in competition with one and other.

Men are dominant and powerful “Ideologies of men define the, to be strong, dominant, slightly imperious, militant and powerful.
