RESEARCH AND CONTEXT The rainforest once covered over 15% of the earth’s land, it now only covers a mere 6%. A Third of the tropical rainforest have been destroyed in the last 50 years. My aim for this project was to raise awareness towards educating people about climate change. Growth in population has led to the forest being destroyed for land. Through this project I aim to engage the audience to evoke a sense of change and reaction. We ignore the fact that global warming is happening and we as a society should become more informed.
LYDIA JONES 0UIL505 At the beginning of this project I was really excited to just create work that I wanted to make. I conducted research into issues that really matter to me which kept me engaged with my work. Although I do feel I could have researched further into existing practitioners my research at the start of the brief allowed me to really understand what I wanted to create. I fully immersed myself in the documentary Before the Flood and I let it feel really proactive to do something for the cause. I struggle to find time to go to places but I feel I really benefitted through this brief by visiting Colours May Vary and a further trip to Yorkshire Sculpture park. As I was able to get in touch with nature and also be inspired by existing practioners work. My beginning research into illustrated walls was really exciting to see possibilities of a direction that my work can follow in.
VISUAL DEVELOPMENT
LYDIA JONES 0UIL505
From my research I was able to determine what wanted to create, I just let myself become not so restricted with this project which I feel my work really benefited from. I worked from reference Imagery and I played around with symbolism and composition. Considering the short time I had to create these piece I feel even my overall technique and approach to line drawing progressed. I was really pleased with the outcome of my sketches and as I planned to work digitally it left me feel less stressed about exploring media. My designs are rather subtle and elegant yet they still communicate well a rather destructive and chaotic message. Using Photoshop really allowed me to really manipulate and perfect my illustrations.
FINAL DESIGNS
This project I have really been able to find myself, I am so proud and happy with my final designs. I feel all my learning from the year had just fed into one brief and I am finally starting to feel content with my work. My application of color and precision for detail I feel has really payed off. My designs work well as a set, covering the issues raised in my research.
LYDIA JONES 0UIL505
Although there are aspects within my project that I would like to have given more time and commitment to, I think I really did spend a lot of time perfecting my designs, I was able to feel really content with the quality of my work. My more favored designs were pieced together and then reworked to perfect the composition. I feel my designs are suited well to the audience that I want to target.
APPLIED ILLUSTRATIONS It really brought my designs to life when I experimented with applying them, I feel they communicate enough without saying to much. I was able to see the potential of my work further when I applied it to clothing, this is definitely something from the project that I aim to take forward. I’m beginning to find confidence in my work which I’ve never really experienced. I feel the designs fit perfectly into their surroundings and target my audience well.

EVALUATION
LYDIA JONES 0UIL505
I began this module a bit clueless, after feeling so let down after 504 and I have really struggled to really apply myself this year. Although in saying this I do feel I have progressed immensely, I have found that I really enjoy making patterns in responsive so I began this module following on with the idea to produce a collection inspired by the rainforest. As I began creating roughs and painting I found I wasn’t pleased with any of my work as It didn’t really say or communicate anything. Over the summer I was commissioned to paint a mural and this really opened my eyes to how illustrations can transform a place. Through my research I was able to understand where my illustrations could be applied and helped me develop a context. At the end of this module I do feel disappointed, I didn’t organize my time effectively and this left me no time to complete my blogging or even apply my illustrations. Although I do feel my final outcomes are really promising designs and it’s a shame I didn’t get to take them further, I feel my designs were applicable to a number of things and my Ideas for this project were very strong so I just feel let down that I didn’t get to take them further. Through this module I learnt to be more confident with my mark making which has resulted In a series of promising line drawing which I was able to adapt and manipulate in photoshop. Last year I swore off photoshop so It great to produce something that I am really confident and content with. I love how it allows me to explore composition and layout. Through this module I was able to determine that murals are possibly something I can see myself following into the future. Working with a restricted color palette allowed me to not become fixated on realism which helped me find a new style of drawing. I wish I had applied myself better because I feel like my drawings could have developed further if they were less rushed. Through this module I have found a way to take my designs that step further by altering them. My confidence as a whole has improved incredibly, I don’t feel like I can't draw anymore.. I wish I felt as stable and proud of my work at the beginning of the year as this has been the hardest thing I have tackled yet. I have been trying to stay positive in order to complete all my work but I feel like I have failed miserably which I am distraught about after feeling so rubbish for so long and now only just have finally found my feet. When I applied my designs I was able to see the potential of my work and It got me excited about the future. I’ve struggled with balancing things this year and I hope this is something a can beat before the beginning of third year. What I have learnt from this module is to tackle things head on, to take a more confident approach to briefs.. Something I really need to work on personally is my organization as I feel this is what let me down the most, I easily become overwhelmed with things and It has been a constant dilemma this whole year, but I was to create bold work that is successful and that I am proud of. In terms of how this module has helped me develop as a practitioner, it has enabled me to explore different ways of working, it also has allowed me to consider the areas I want to go into. I have a love for fashion which I have realized I need to influence my practice more with, when I can apply it so I thought I'd really challenge myself with this module and create 6 murals as pattern would have been an easy option.
