A Story
At eight years of age, Susana Corrigan and her family left Mexico City under difficultcircumstances. Alongside her siblings and parents, Susana landed in Los Angeles, where the family set out to build a new life.
Even though she was only a child, Susana had a sense, an awareness, about what was happening around her. Her response to these events would inform the trajectory of her life, personally and professionally.
At the time, Susana didn’t realize the impact this time would have on her adult life, let alone her career choice. As she stepped into the working world, she remembered lessons learned through her family’s immigration and all of the uncertainty that came with it.
“I realized that my future was up to me; that I wanted to be the author of my life. I wanted to be able to provide for my family, to be financiallysuccessful, and to do good work for the benefitof others. I wanted to make an impact, to be of value.”
FINDING HER NICHE
In her early 20’s, Susana began helping her family and friends from Mexico City findproperty in San Diego, researching the best agents, financing,etc. With boots on the ground in The States, she was equipped to help others navigate the system.
“In 1981, when we had to sell our residence, we had some bad experiences with agents. I ended up taking care of a large part of the transaction myself.” Susana

became licensed and a REALTOR®. Her plan was to sell real estate part time around raising her children. Then, she closed her firt sale, a property in La Jolla that sold for $1.180 million—a lot of money in 1982! She closed the transaction in four days.

Early in her career, Susana had the good fortune of working under an influentialbroker and mentor, Athena Harman. When Athena called her to collect her firt commission check, Susana headed to the offie, feeling good. While there, she became engrossed with the business coming in and completely forgot about the check.

My Path to Real Estate
Upon graduating from San Diego State University, Patty was recruited by a Los Angeles based firm, Mendoza Dillion y Asociados, the largest Spanishlanguage advertising agency in the country at the time. She earned the opportunity to be at the forefront of a newly emerging industry, and she ran with it. When Patty returned to San Diego, she worked for Ken Smith & Associates, a highly-regarded general marketing agency. Yet her heart was still with the Hispanic community. So, Patty founded Cohen Latino Communications. Her client roster included Cox Communications, Union Bank of California, and McDonald’s, to name a few.
Patty’s focus was not only on advertising to the Spanish-speaking consumer, the firms approach always included a public relations component, which led her to form a strategic alliance with Nuffer, Smith, Tucker, a highly regarded public relations firm.She was also a founding member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
After successfully operating Cohen Latino for 14 years, Patty was ready for a change. When her father offered her the Director of Marketing position for the family business, Peter Piper Pizza Restaurants, she sold her firm and jumped on.
Then her sister, Susana Corrigan, who was manyyears thriving in the business, “stole” her away! (Their father was very pleased……) The sisters are passionate about real estate and about being a sister team.
