Specifically the mandates under Strategy 1, ACTION 1.2 that could require you to install new windows, lighting, water heaters and other costly items, before selling your home or small business. Leslie Kilpatrick, board president of the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors and Willis Allen Real Estate agent, explained in an op-ed piece for the Union Tribune, “The mandates in the climate action plan would require you to pay these out-of-pocket expenses before a sale can occur, meaning the mandates could lock you into your home until you are able to save thousands of dollars to make the required improvements. For the many people who have used their homes as a retirement investment, they may not be able to buy their way out and use those funds for retirement as planned. For the family that needs to move up to a larger property, the mandates could eliminate their ability to use their profits from the sale of a condo to move into a home.”

While most can agree that the environment, energy and water efficiency, and sustainability are important concerns to address for our city’s future, some mandates of San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria’s proposed Climate Action Plan have come under fire.

Zillow Acquires Trulia Online real estate search company Zillow recently announced their $3.5 billion acquisition of competitor Trulia in a move that will consolidate two of the biggest players in online real estate listings. In a press release Zillow’s chief executive, Spencer Rascoff, states that the combined company will maintain both the Zillow and Trulia brands independently with the acquisition serving to cut corporate costs and allow the combined resources to accelerate innovation on mobile and Web providing more valuable tools and services to consumers and professionals. Concerns have been raised that by creating less competition in the marketplace the merger will lead to rising costs for agents.

Thankfully DRWB picked him up and started him on the road to complete recovery. Storm has blossomed into a wonderful, chubby, easy going dog that has been waiting too long for his forever home.

She will do awesome in a home with other dogs and a yard! Jalil walks excellent on leash and rides very well in the car. She loves to give kisses and enjoys the company of her human. Jalil goes out to potty if she has access to the backyard; please remember that once a dog moves to a new environment some re-training may be necessary.
MISS PIRATA: Unlike his name Storm is a calm and quiet guy, about 45lbs and 1.5 years old. He gets along great with other dogs but also likes tranquility. A husky mix, he can be shy at first but warms up as soon as he gets to know you.
He has been waiting patiently for that perfect house to turn into a home and a family to love forever. Is that you?
Female, Border Collie Mix, 1.5-2 yrs, 30 lbs. This lovely girl was rescued from the streets when she was pregnant. Now she lives with a wonderful family and sleeps with her foster! Pirata is social with EVERYONE, humans of all ages and dogs of all sizes. She is playful and loving. Currently she lives indoors but has access to the outside and goes in and out to the yard as she pleases. She deserves the best and will never go back to the streets.

Currently he socializes with other doggies very well, but we think that being the only one or having one more companion at most would be ideal for him as he sometimes get jealous when others get the attention. FEATURED CAT: RICKY Ricky originally came to The Rescue House in 2008 when his hip was injured and he needed surgery to correct it; he healed wonderfully and was happily adopted into a loving home. Unfortunately, Ricky’s guardian has learned that she is terminally ill, and her first point of order was to make sure her beloved Ricky finds a new loving home with a family who will care for him for the rest of his life. Ricky is a very friendly and laid-back cat who is also playful, curious, and confident. He loves to lounge by the window watching cat “television”—his adoptive home was next to a golf course, and birds and bunnies regularly came by. He also enjoys watching regular television with his person, or keeping you company while you type away on the computer. When it’s playtime, Ricky likes to have you involved—he’s definitely playful but usually won’t take the initiative to play with toys on his own. All in all, Ricky is very human-focused and more than anything just wants YOU. Ricky was an only cat in his previous home and could happily be so again; in the past he has coexisted with other cats yet didn’t show much interest in them. We don’t know how he feels about dogs. Older children should be fine with Ricky. Ricky has known the joy of a loving bond with a human, one that was truly ‘til death do you part. He may need some time and patience as he adjusts to the loss of his person and his home, yet his need for that connection will shine through—

She is a very sweet girl who thrives in a quiet environment where she can strongly bond with her chosen person. Though not a lap cat, she appreciates contact and comforting and will almost always be in your company. Cleo needs a peaceful home with no other cats or children. MAKSIM & SIMON Maksim is a relaxed, talkative, and superfriendly cat who delights in human company, especially back scratches and head rubs. If you look at Maksim and make eye contact, he may stretch quickly toward your face to playfully bop-bop-bop you with soft paws. Simon is a big sweet love bug who craves attention. While it is not required, it would be marvelous if these two boys could be adopted together.
TIBBY: Tibby and her siblings were found trying to fend for themselves, and were initially very unsure of what it meant to have people caring for them. Love and patience won out, though, and while Tibby does need some extra time to adjust, she has learned that human companionship is wonderful! Tibby is an extremely playful cat who will do high jumps and soaring, acrobatic leaps to catch her toys—she is also a cuddly cat who will sneak into your lap for attention. She’s a clever girl who has learned commands to go to her “bed” in the evening and offer her forehead for a “kiss.
SUZY Q: When Suzy Q’s guardian passed away, a neighbor asked The Rescue House to help. Suzy Q took the loss of her guardian deeply to heart; when she arrived in foster care she was clearly in mourning. With patience and understanding, Suzy Q began to come out of her shell and show us that she is a gentle and sweet kitty who makes a restful companion. She just needs TLC and a special person to whom she can give her utmost devotion.
BARRINGTON: Barrington’s family moved away and left him to fend for himself. He joined up with some homeless cats and was eventually brought to The Rescue House. A veterinarian discovered he had suffered a head trauma at some point that resulted in two broken canines and a lesion in his mouth; they were treated and he is doing well. Due to that experience, Barrington’s trust does need to be earned, yet there is such a loving and gentle soul waiting for the person who will put in that effort.
CHANCE & LANCE: Chance and Lance came to The Rescue House when their guardian was being evicted. Both boys are very sweet cats who appreciate your company! Chance is more reserved, yet will give an appreciative rumbly purr when you pet him. Lance is a sweet and lovey boy who is very interactive and will seek you out for attention. Chance and Lance are fine with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

REAL ESTATE NEWS Zillow Acquires Trulia Online real estate search company Zillow recently announced their $3.5 billion acquisition of competitor Trulia in a move that will consolidate two of the biggest players in online real estate listings. In a press release Zillow’s chief executive, Spencer Rascoff, states that the combined company will maintain both the Zillow and Trulia brands independently with the acquisition serving to cut corporate costs and allow the combined resources to accelerate innovation on mobile and Web providing more valuable tools and services to consumers and professionals. Concerns have been raised that by creating less competition in the marketplace the merger will lead to rising costs for agents. Trulia CEO Pete Flint believes that, “By working together, we will be able to create even more value for home buyers, sellers, and renters, as well as create a robust marketing platform that will help our industry partners connect with potential clients and grow their businesses even more efficiently.” At the end of the day these sites are a piece of the process but can never replace what an experienced local real estate professional brings to buying and selling your home. Brett Combs, President and Broker of P.S. Platinum Properties, when we asked him earlier this year about the role of sites like these in his business told us, “These sites have made our listings even more visible and accessible to the public. More importantly, it’s allowed the public to educate themselves on the marketplace prior to viewing our listings. What these sites cannot replace is the true value of working with a knowledgeable agent. It takes more than a “Zestimate” from Zillow to get a firm understanding of the market values. Buyers and Sellers still need someone who understands the intricacies of the local market’s values and opportunities.”
San Diego’s Proposed Climate Action Plan While most can agree that the environment, energy and water efficiency, and sustainability are important concerns to address for our city’s future, some mandates of San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria’s proposed Climate Action Plan have come under fire. Specifically the mandates under Strategy 1, ACTION 1.2 that could require you to install new windows, lighting, water heaters and other costly items, before selling your home or small business. Leslie Kilpatrick, board president of the Greater San Diego Association of Realtors and Willis Allen Real Estate agent, explained in an op-ed piece for the Union Tribune, “The mandates in the climate action plan would require you to pay these out-of-pocket expenses before a sale can occur, meaning the mandates could lock you into your home until you are able to save thousands of dollars to make the required improvements. For the many people who have used their homes as a retirement investment, they may not be able to buy their way out and use those funds for retirement as planned. For the family that needs to move up to a larger property, the mandates could eliminate their ability to use their profits from the sale of a condo to move into a home.” Kilpatrick posits that the mandates should be eliminated from the plan and points out successful incentive based programs, like those for solar, as a possible alternative. The number of California homes that sold for a million dollars or more rose to its highest level in seven years last quarter, the result of rising home prices and an improving economy. The luxury market’s high end continues to do best, with record sales above the $2 million mark. A total of 12,826 homes sold for a million dollars or more during the April-through-June period. That was up 60.4% from 7,994 during this year’s first quarter, and up 9.1% from 11,758 in second-quarter 2013.
