Places of interest in Umlazi include How Long Park, which was founded in 1976 by Michael Fana Mlangeni, who maintained and improved it with his own funds until he was employed by the Municipality as caretaker in 1998.

Another site of importance is the home of lawyer and struggle stalwart Griffiths Mxenge and his wife Victoria, both of whom were killed by Apartheid forces during the 1980s.
