**** Dedicated to my friend and confidante, Madeleine Poe, who has helped me so much as a brand new coloring book designer. This book is her brainchild. And the thought of it set my imagination on fire.

To the colorists who colored my birds in the Orient cover contest, thank you, from the bottom of my heart for helping me show what can be done with grayscale coloring. I am shocked by you, and in awe of you, on a daily basis. On the Front Cover from left to right: • Linda Kupstas - bonsai • Sylvie St.-Onge - Girl in light colored kimono, outside • Sylvie St-Onge - Woman with yakuta on street in Kyoto • Hagit Mass - Girl in red dress with tree with pale blooms • Madeleine Poe - Girl with fan • Sandy Newman, girl wearing kimono by Daigoji temple in autumn On the Back Cover from left to right: • Mary DiPhillipo - Hangzhou, China • Elaine Webb - silk kimono pattern • Sheila Lohrie - silk kimono pattern • Sandy Newman - Daigoji temple in autumn-Kyoto, Japan • Annemarie Mous - sushi • Stephanie Frisch - girl in sakura garden with parasol There are many different types of images in this book. There are Japanese buildings, women dressed as Geishas, modern Japanese women walking the streets of Tokyo, and other Japanese cities. These are not all Japanese images, which is

why I’m calling the book “The Orient.” There may be girls from Thailand. There may be images from China, and other places. I’ve curated a variety of images, and some, if not all, should appeal to you, the grayscale colorist. The goal was to chose colorful images that would be a pleasure, and maybe even a challenge, for you to color. In the end, you will end up with a beautiful piece of Art. All I did was to provide you with the sketch, if you will. That’s how I look at grayscale coloring: the Artist provides you with the sketch for your painting, and you chose how to fill the rest in. There are many youtube videos available for you to learn how to do grayscale coloring. If you are challenge, go to youtube and search for what your issue is, and you’re sure to find some tutorials. And, you’re invited to join my facebook group “Creative Studio Designs.” https://www.facebook.com/groups/384294649651299 We’re building a group of Grayscale Colorists who appreciate high quality images. Once there, I welcome your feedback on the kinds of books you’d like to see from me in the future. And if you have questions, please ask them, we have a wonderful community of colorists of all skill levels and a wide variety of experience, who will encourage and help you along your journey. And, if you prefer to print out your own images on your own paper, you can obtain copies of my books in pdf form on Etsy. My shop is also titled “Creative Studio Designs.”

Here is the link to my Etsy Shop: https://www.etsy.com/ shop/CreativeStudDesigns The difference between the PDF version of the book and the Amazon printed version is that the PDF version has the full color images of the grayscales. These might help you as a reference point. Here are the flip books of all my books https://issuu.com/lynn.thomas57/docs Those are what you get if you buy my coloring books on Etsy. My hope is that my books will provide you many hours of creative coloring and soul nurturing moments, and give you beautiful art as a result. No two colorists color any single image in the same way, each is unique to you. Happy coloring!
