URBAN DECOMPOSER ------- Co-living with Non-human How human as a technologically evolving species may provide opportunities for other biologically evolving species to adapt themselves to modern urban ecosystems? How can the “co-living be a sustainable solution to the urgent environmental issues and ongoing dystopian ecological situation?

5

Noctiluca Sintillants

Common Name: Blue Glowing Algae Due to the global warming and marine pollution, glowing algae blooms along coast line world-widely. In order to control its threatening population, human tends to use ultrasonic equipment to scan the ocean surface. In my project, Instead of being killed, algae is allowed to saty in this urban regugee shelter and is incorporated into the interior space as a lighting source substituting electricity.

Pleurotus Ostreatus

Common Name: Oyster Mushroom It has been proved that oyster mushroom has the ability of decomposing plastic waste in its mycellium stage. The building is to become the urban decomposer of the neighbourhood. On the other hand, human is providing aid for the oyster mushroom on its evolution progress --- expanding its territory to the marine and urban ecosystems.

CORRESPONDING INDIVIDUALITY Designed for the non-profit legal services and advocacy orgnization-Urban Justice Center, this project in Industrial City, Brooklyn is trying to explore the interface where meets both collaboration and individuality according to UJC’s communicational working culture. It also attempts to emphasize the grey area between private and shared, individual and commom, virtual and reality. It is to solve the problem of distraction and lower privacy brought by traditional open office, and to create new way of high efficiency communication among individuals. 19

Collaboration - Individuality Private - Shared Respecting - Corresponding

ONE-WAY BOUNDARY

In this fast food restaurant located besides the hallway of a busy airport terminal, the one-way boundary is made not only for seperating different programs of a space, but is also created to emphasis the experience and the difference between public and privacy on both sides of the boundary.

31

Person standing on the concave side of the boundary is able to have maximum sight with maximum privacy, while the person standing on the convex side of the boundary is having minimum range of eye sight and least privacy.

IMPROMPTU Inspired by Composition No.10 of Piet Mondrian, the system is to develop an improvisational pattern out of rigidity. The Impromptu project is Designed for a multi-generational family of 4 members, to explore the versatility and possibility in circulations and material. The planar circulations help create needed privacy or interaction in different scenarios; the vertical circulation of kitchen, dinning and living area creates change of conversation; the variation of material embodies the concept of improvisation.

Typology diagram of circulation

Flexibility of circulation is created by incontinuous partitions. Absence of human movement is the existence of interior structure. Thus the interior structure is like the perforated hole on map of human circulation. More holes will create more possible access from one point to another.

PIECES Pieces Fitout, in Auckland, Newzealand, is the first project of Project LYM started in summer 2018. In this proposal, fitout retail store as a brand gallery is to combine the retail shopping experience with art gallery exhibitiion, to create an ambience of comtemplating and refreshing. Monolithic and architectural elements are introduced in the design language.

47

Pieces Fitout boutique proposal locates on the first floor of the heritage Mckenzie building on High street, which is the essential retail location in the Central Business District of Auckland. At the cross of High street and Freberg place, the location is fully exposed to the public plaza and street paths.

“Anti-Touch-Screen”

NEO-LUDDISM TRILOGY

Neo-Luddism is a philosophy opposing the usage of modern technologies. The trilogy jewelry project represents “anti-touchscreen”, “anti-mouse”, and “anti-keyboard”. However, when wearing these piece, the user’s hands will lose the ability of conducting simple daily tasks and become “disabled”. It’s been incredibly difficult for modern human to live without their technologies.
