WOMENSWEAR 2015/16 AW COLLECTION
Founded in 1945, Celine now has more 60 years of history. It started with selling fine leather shoes for boys. CELINE has a strong brand image which features freedom and independence. It encourages woman to live freely and present the charm of gentle. The design director now is PHEOBE PHILO, who attaches great importance to an independent and free lifestyle for women. She believes that the priority for women to dress is to please themselves. She has been trying to make women wear men’s clothes. In my opinion, her design has completely presented an image of “big woman”. This “big woman”, whose name is “Celine” embodies her thoughts, concepts and feelings with her design in every season. It is exactly this spirit that makes Pheobe’s design natural and powerful. The collection is inspired by the female image of Celine. I am eager to be a woman like that who is independent, confident and elegant. But I am also curious what on earth makes this “big woman”. For me, the collection is more like a process of exploration, during which I dug up the stories behind this woman and looked into the fragility, rebellion and gentleness under the powerfulness. Besides I would also like to express the contradiction as it makes the image of Celine more complete and authentic. In this sense, I hope that my collection could be a record for the changing process of “Celine”. The collection is inspired by AMISH and YOHJI YAMAMOTO. The former one comes from an American group that insists live in a plain and simple way without any modern facilities. The latter one is a designer who opposes to fashion and provoke the emancipation of women. The collection has used the classic style of AMISH overalls and female robe to express the romantic air of Celine. Additionally, it has used some feminine elements as well such as lace in certain parts and gentle colour tones. Meanwhile it has combined the asymmetrical style of Yohji Yamamoto with patchwork of different materials and exposed stitches as a way to express the rebellion of traditional fashion. However, the collection has retained the classic men’s style and fabrics that are mostly used. The key points of the design are "DISTILLATION" and "TRANSCENDENCE".
