Your Health, Your Hospital ’14 SEPT/OCT

Immediate Care Coming in 2015 Beginning this fall, Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH) will open the doors to our new WELL Clinic. This new clinic will be the home for services already at DCMH, such as WorkWELL, Occupational Health, StayWELL near-site employer-based program and Lab, along with our newest addition to your Hospital’s services, an Immediate Care Clinic, coming in 2015. Similar to what StayWELL provides for the school systems, WELL Clinic’s Immediate Care branch will be able to provide same-day healthcare to the general public and to patients who may need immediate care for their needs. Recognizing the desire in Decatur County for both of these immediate care and occupational health needs, your Hospital has conveniently moved them all under one roof in an effort to increase satisfaction with our patients. The WELL Clinic is located at 955 N. Michigan Avenue in the Medical Office building.

WELL Clinic For any questions regarding the WELL Clinic and its various services, please feel free to contact the Clinic staff at (812) 663-2245 or visit www.dcmh.net/WELLClinic today.

PATIENT TESTIMONIAL Thankful for Their Care and Encouragement When Sara, a patient of Decatur County Memorial Hospital, began seeing the DCMH ultrasound team, she explained she was weak, couldn’t drive herself to her appointments and was very, very sick. “I knew I couldn’t get better and that I would die if I didn’t get this under control or taken care of.” Her legs began to feel heavier and fluid built up throughout her body. “I have nothing but good to say about those girls, and the staff there.” Sara’s physician, Dr. Nykki Boersma, referred her to the Imaging/X-ray department at DCMH to begin treatment until the fluid stopped building up. Sara visited the hospital once a week for almost six months. She traveled from Rushville to Greensburg every time and explained that a neighbor was, thankfully, available to drive her.

process to take care of it all, but I am so thankful for the girls and staff that helped me out and were there to encourage me. We became close through the process and even friends. They still call to check on me.” The fluid retention in Sara’s body was attributed to her long battle with alcoholism. Sara only has one kidney and soon her liver stopped working in conjunction with her kidney, and so began the fluid buildup. She was happy to share that she has taken the ultrasound team’s advice to heart to start taking better care of herself. She’s elated to think she is still around today, given everything she’s gone through. Sara has not had to return for treatment since January and says she is glad to be doing much better. “They are all such good people, from the receptionist to the ultrasound staff to the doctors. I’ve had such a wonderful experience with as much as I went through,” Sara went on to say, “I think I’ve beat it, and I could not have done it without all the help of everyone at DCMH.”

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT Hospitalist Program

Allison Bruns

Occupational Health Assistant Hometown: Greensburg, Indiana

The new Hospitalist program at DCMH is off to a good start since its implementation in early summer. DCMH physician Dr. Jennifer Fletcher sees hospitalized patients on the new third floor Med/Surg unit of the hospital seven days a week, every other week, serving as their primary doctor while in the hospital. Dr. Fletcher spends all of her work day in the hospital, and thus can be more readily available to a patient in need. This program brings together hospitalized patients with an on-site doctor to improve patient satisfaction, offer more immediate access and help provide uninterrupted care.
