Drawing is a really good hobby. If you’re bored, just draw. The problem is when it comes to drawing something harder. Drawing a person, an animal, or an object is a little bit harder, especially if you have or you want to draw it realistic.

One day I was trying to draw a person, but while I was doing the sketch I realized that I didn’t know how to do that, that’s why I had to learn about anatomy. For that I was looking for some tutorials, in those videos people were constantly saying that if you want to draw a human body, you should learn how it works, and now I can say that they were right.

Something that I used to think was that the cartoon style was easier because you can do whatever you want and the anatomy won’t matter, but I was wrong. For drawing those cartoons the artists had to study anatomy, after that they could do everything because they were learning the hard part to become it easier.

I was taking notes while I watched those videos, after that I decided to look pictures of the skeleton and the muscles, and then I just tried to draw it.

I was acquiring new information, names included; now I know about deltoids, biceps, trapeziums, abdominals, and other muscles. The names might not be the most important thing to learn but makes it easier. Also drawing them with simple geometrical shapes like circles, squares, triangles or ovals, is a good way to learn how they are structured and for remembering them.

The second thing that I did was seeing references. It’s important to know how the body works but a really good way to understand that is looking at real life’s poses.

When I was practicing some pose, I could understand it better. The human body doesn’t have any straight line; even if we are standing straight, our body is not a rectangle, that’s why the lines are rounded and flowy, which applies to thin people too, so I was sketching different bodies to acquire the information. I was struggling with the differences between the feminine and masculine body. Women have more rounded shapes than men, so, when I was drawing a man, he looked really strange because I did the lines very straight.

Draw by me

Practice makes perfect, I’m not good enough, but I keep practicing to become better and finally draw a good human body.
