Sub-structure or Foundation is the lower portion of the building, usually located below the ground level, which transmits the loads of the super-structure to the supporting soil. A foundation is therefore that part of the structure which is in direct contact with the ground to which the loads are transmitted.
Slab on ground
Strip footing
Ground slabs are those slabs that are poured directly into excavated trenches in the ground. They rely entirely on the existing ground for support.
A footing is the lowest supporting member of the actual structure. Continuous reinforced strip is one of the most common types of footing systems used in residential and commercial construction, apart from slab-on-ground. This slab is supporte d by strip footings.
Pad Footing
Retaining Wall Where ground conditions dictate, Pad Footings are utilised, which are a rectangular concrete shape and are wide rather than deep.
A vertical partition used to restrict the movement of soil or water.
