Lots of backand-forth went into considering which project would precede the next. After a semesters worth of student and teacher consultations a cohesive arrangement was finalized.

Imperfections arise when there are limitations in the design and construction of things. I embrace these quirks and anomalies which present themselves during this learning process. OPENING STATEMENT
A great example of this philosophy comes from architecture in the brutalist style where concrete is used for its raw and unpretentious characteristics. Brutalism exposes a building’s functions and imperfections. This method best describes my design approach. I want the audience to understand that they are experiencing something that is designed. Rather than concealing the hand of the designer, I prefer the honest exposure of formal structure and intent.
*Portfolio opening statement constructed from research on topics relating to the keyword, IMPERFECT. Philosophies of imperfection SIDENOTE
can be found in Buddhism and the traditional Japanese aesthetic known as “wabi-sabi”, a world view of the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Also looking into the traditions found in brutalist architecture, I found that buildings in this style, cast in concrete and made to expose the basic nature of their construction, reveal the texture of the wooden planks used for the in-situ casting forms.

Design a conceptual book about a scientific field of interest using the grid, typography, photography, illustration, and composition. [APPROACH]
Forensic science was an instant choice, as it was a subject with a large built-in audience that absorbs its numerous pop-culture references in literature, TV, games, and film. With this vernacular established, I developed a visual standard that fit within the many examples the science had through its representation in today's popular culture. [TYPE FACE]

[OBJECTIVE]
Conceptualize a listening experience for a song of my choice by creating a visual solution through the use of a film projector, a television screen, and typography and graphic elements printed on celluloid. Photographing these in a way that reveals interesting type treatments. [APPROACH]
I chose a song that was sonically loud and that had a direct message through its lyrics and song title. As the song title “I've seen footage” states, the listener gets an impression of viewing recorded film and video footage. With this in mind, I approached it with a vernacular of video and audio recording techniques to convey the song's poetic message. [TYPE FACE]
