Solely managed for elk and deer, the property is located in Big Game Unit (BGU) 10. The ranch historically receives one mature bull tag and one either-sex archery tag, in addition to over-the-counter landowner tags for mule deer, Merriam turkey, black bear, and mountain lion.

The unique game management habitat of Wooden Nickel Ranch includes a well-maintained water system, dirt ponds, and private gated access, all enclosed within a completely fenced perimeter. Thoreau, New Mexico known for Bluewater Lake State Park, is just a short 30-minute drive away from Grants, New Mexico, offering easy access to Walmart, restaurants, medical facilities, shopping, and a G5 capable municipal airport. For broader travel options, Albuquerque is approximately 110± miles from the ranch.

Situated on paved Highway 612, the property is easily accessible year round.

Bluewater Lake State Park campground offers 149 campsites near Bluewater Lake in the Zuni Mountains. In addition to regular camping, the park also offers group, primitive beach, and boat-in camping options. Outdoor activities at the park include boating, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, sailing, jet skiing, water skiing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.

Coyote del Malpais is a unique and picturesque golf course in New Mexico, nestled under the majestic Mount Taylor. With 18 challenging holes stretching up to 7,000 feet, players can choose from four different tee distances. The course provides excellent facilities, including a pro shop and dining options, ensuring a memorable experience for visitors.

The El Malpais National Conservation Area (NCA) safeguards significant geological, ecological, and cultural resources in the Zuni-Bandera volcanic field. With stunning sandstone cliffs, canyons, natural arches, and wilderness areas, the NCA offers opportunities for photography, hiking, camping, and wildlife viewing.
