SLICES BENEATH AND AROUND THE MOUNDS ARE CRAVED OUT TO CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MOVEMENT, COMMUNAL SPACES FOR RESIDENTS, AND A SHARED PUBLIC LIBRARY WITH AMPLE PARKING. A 20 X25 FOOT GRID DEFINING THE APARTMENT UNITS IS OFFSET BY 5 FOOT PLANTED AREAS WHICH CREATES A VARIABLE EXPERIENCE OF OPENNESS AND CLOSURE AS ONE MOVES THROUGH THE VOLUME.

ANAMORPHISM LOWER MANHATTAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL NEW YORK, NY EACH FLOOR OF THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IS DIVI DED INTO MEZZANINE LEVELS TO SEPARATE THE SPACES WITH MINIMAL WALLS. OPPORTUNITIES FOR OBSERVATION OCCUR BETWEEN FLOORS AND DOUBLE HEIGHT SPACES. EACH FLOOR IS ANCHORED WITH AN ACADEMIC DISCIPLINE INCLUDING BOTH LABS AND LOUNGES. THE SKELETON STRUCTURE FURTHER SUBDIVIDES THOSE SPACES, AND CREATES INTIMATE AND COZY SPACES THAT STUDENTS ACTIVELY GRAVITATE TOWARDS. THE SKELETON ALSO ACTS LIKE A MAGNET- BRINGING THE FLOOR, CEILING AND FACADE TO MEET IT, ACTIVATING THE SPACES AND BRINGING A SENSE OF CONTINUITY THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL.
