STATEMENT OF INTENT Many definitions of architecture convey the same general meaning, but a phrase that seems the most inspiring to me states that "Architecture and eloquence are mixed arts whose end is sometimes beauty and sometimes use�. By this philosophy, architects can consider themselves the composer; the artists behind the metaphorical tango of contextual significance and aesthetic composition. So, in my opinion, Architecture is an aesthetic, political and social discipline in which both function and form have their own significance. It is my firm belief that true relevance lies in how both form and function add to the performative qualities of architecture. I, as an architect always strive to find a balance between form and functionality while developing a sustainable product which respects nature. Buildings should be developed in harmony with environment or at least affecting environment as less as they can. In order to understand more thoroughly about Green building principles and practices I had attained LEED Associate Professional certification for Building design and Construction to enhance my knowledge that would be helpful in future projects. In studios, I start my projects with research which helps in generating basic idea sketches and then develop design with consultation and as per requirements. I prepare 3d models to analyse massing, form, light and shadow. The final presentation usually comprises of the sketches to well presented plans and 3d model views. After working in Saudi Arabia for around 7 years along with multinational architecture firms, I get to know the international standards of design and construction as they were implemented on projects. As a hard working architect with good knowledge of design, work experience and with the hunger to learn more with new coming challenges, I am seeking to align and associate myself with your team to enhance future growth of self as an architect as well as to contribute to your studio. With this goal in mind, I am presenting my portfolio to demonstrate about my skills, knowledge and capabilities. I am hopeful that based on my skills and the work which I would be presenting on the following pages of this portfolio would be helpful for you to understand my skills in depth and it would make it easier for you to provide me an opportunity to prove myself as a hard working Architect. MASTER PLAN DESIGN DEVELOPMENT As always it was a tough task to find a balance between economic feasiblity of master plan design and to have a well design neighbourhood which positively effect the life of its residents. Therefore, Master plan went through series of development with intent to explore high and low density residential compound masterplan options. Serveral masterplan variations where developed with one as developing the whole residential compound as pedestrianised zone while keeping the vehlicles at the boundary of the plot only but it did not went ahead as the client intent was to create an introverted design having its own environment and access. Parking was intially propsed to be at the basement but it would not be an economically wise decision to take parking in the basement while designing the residential compound with low density. Mosque is located close to main entrance of compound in the final design as its general amenity and is usually also utilised by the people living nearby.

SPATIAL PLANNING & ELEVATION DESIGN LANGUAGE The villa was planned in a manner that it can serve a typical Saudi family as well as an expatriate family. The lounge at the ground floor level can easily be turned in to a Majlis seating in case of a Saudi family and the door at the begining of stair can easily separate public and private spaces of villa. The backyard space can be an outdoor space for the family or can act as play area for the children while the mother can keep a watch on children from the living room.
FIrst floor is planned to be totally private space for the family with Master bedroom having a view of the backyard while balcony at the lounge can provide a view of the whole compound. The roof annex is only utlised for Maid's Room and services.
As per the contract, two variations of elevation design were purposed by me, one of them was based on modern design language while the other was inspired by mediterranean style villas though both elevation design variations were intended to be as simple as they can be due to constraints of budget. Both elevation designs were presented to client and I was really expecting that the client would probably choose the modern variation of elevation design but contrary to my liking, the mediterranean styled elevation was approved by client along with some comments that were

The spatial planning of apartments is quite similiar to villa plans in terms of zonning and segregating public and private zones to make them workable in case residents of the apartment are Saudi people. The ground floor level apartments are totally separated from upper levels by having their own separate entrances while upper level apartments shared their access by a common stair. Each apartment unit have 3 bedrooms along with an additional room for Maid. First floor level onwards are projected towards the internal road side and on backyard side which creates an opportunity for an extra room that can be utlised as a study or an additional bedroom. The lounge & Dining rooms at upper floor of apartments are designed in a manner that can be utlised as one space as well.

SPATIAL PLANNING & DESIGN SOLUTION The residences of father and sons were designed as two blocks which are interconnected at ground floor by means a patio and on first floor by balcony that provides an amazing view of the swimming pool and outdoor landscape area. The same connection zone also contain a service stair that would also be utlized by the Maids for accessing different zones of residential complex.
The sons residence block is again separated between the two sons as Basement and ground floor would be utilized by one son and the fisrt floor and second floor would be utilized by the second son just like duplex apartments even though the whole development is intended to look as one grand residence. The basement floor of the blocks is served by sunken courtyards that would bring in daylight and provide nice views to outdoor landscape zones even while sitting in a basement.

CONCEPT The concept design draw lines from nature of coastal location that is characterized by its undulating curves. The design represent two of the most important elements of project site that are undulating lines of waves and blue colour of ocean. These two elements are also the constituents of university of Dammam's logo, so in a way the conceptual design is also inspired by the university logo. The design seeks to benefit from the surrounding nature of site that in a way design respect its context. The conceptual design follows contemporary approach of design in order to develop the project as a distinctive visual landmark for the university..

- The task was to design a public plaza and a park which should attract people and have an inviting open design. The building was already a prototype design that have to be incorparated in the design.

Therefore, this project would function just like an oasis in the desert where people can sit and relax in open air, have coffee while watching football matches which are quite popular in the region. CONCEPT The intention was to create a design that invites people and create focal point towards the display screen and the main public entrance of the building. Therefore, plaza is extended till the pedestrain walkways to limit the transition from pedestrain walkways to plaza and pathways to minimum in order to make user feel that plaza and park are part of the pedestrain pathways. The design of plaza and pathways flooring is such that it will direct visitors line of sights towards the focal point. This intent is further enchanced by the placement of palms trees at the sides of plaza which would converge the people line of sights towards the focal point. Three cafes with semi shaded sitting, Public toilets blocks are provided as part of design.

CONCEPT The intention was to design in a manner that can merge with philosophy of design utilized in the neighbouring city famaous King Abdullah park while incorporating the already well grown up existing trees.
Most of the redevelopment design was done in coordination with survey of already existing trees and only few trees were affected that were shifted to different locations within the park. Prince Salman Oasis was incorporated in new design with its public entrance & Display screen facing majority of park area. Playfields for football and Basketball are provided as these sports are quite famous among youngsters while seatings are placed under the shade of trees mostly. The pathways are organic interms of design creating interesting and ever changing views while following the design language of the dominant King Abdullah Park.

Kids play area is on pedestrian lane side so that the kids will be secure from vehicular movement.

King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) is designed to become the largest financial center in the Middle East. It will be the headquarters of the Capital Market Authority (CMA), The stock exchange, Commodity market and

The site comprises of two parts that are separted by Thumama Road with the leaf on the eastern side and Area 6 on western side. All the district would be interconnected with help of skywalks, travelators and monorail.
PROJECT The project is located in King Abdullah Financial District, with Parcel no.s 5.07 and 5.08. The project consists of 4 towers interconnecting with each other on two parcels. The towers will be built above ground floor level for commercial, residential and offices purposes. Each parcel has two towers one for offices and one for residential consisting of furnished apartments. The total built-up area is 156,000 m² and basement of four levels is provided for

The project flooring design was distinct at different locations depending on the functional use of the area, For instance, Retail floor's levels had totally different flooring design then the residential and office spaces of towers. The undergiven shop drawing was made by me and was for Office Tower A. The flooring design contains zero joint marble of varing sizes that are separated by 100mm x 1200mm Dark Emperador Marble strips. As per the contract with client office Towers A and C were Core and Shell construction, so we were only responsible for the corridor flooring while the tenants that would occupy the buildings in future would have to furnish office spaces as per TOWERS KEYPLAN

LEARNING CURVE Now I belief that the project was an extra ordinary learning curve as it opens up new horizons for me. By the end of my work at the project I started to even take care about 10-20 mm. Apart from being cautious I also got exposure to new techniques in construction such as Post tension slabs, Stiffner columns etc. I started to look drawings in coordination with other disciplines unlike before when I was only thinking about architecture. At last I do admit that sometimes it was boring to continuously work on Autocad drawings but the good part at this project was that our office was located at site and to see built everyday what you draw is always a refreshing sight for any architect.

The design Concept is formulated after a detail study of site as its all about adaptability and respecting the natural sources. The basic planning begins with the understanding of wind dynamics and sunlight. UTILIZING THE POTENTIALS OF NATURAL SOURCES THROUGH INNOVATION IN DESIGN. The basic form was evolved to enhance the wind velocity as it forms a funnel that will increase the wind velocity upto 50% at the tip of funnel where wind turbines will be placed. The sides of the conceptual triangles are curved to increase the space efficiency of offices while still forming the wind funnel. Each tower is provided with a central atrium so the tower can be naturally ventilated due to natural stack effect and will also provide daylight to inner side of the offices. Three cores are provided at three ends of each triangle in which one core contain basics services. The second is circulation core and while third contains fire exit and services. The sky gardens would help in natural ventilation of the building, enhancement of daylight and in achieving the low energy consumption goal which is essential. Each Sky garden is 36 feets in height which means 3 floors and there is a module of 9 floors which had sky garden once at each side at three different levels of the module. The sky gardens provide pleasant and healthy working environment for employees and is a place for social gatherings and informal dine inns.

design is to have interaction with nature while creating a dynamic environment and for this purpose a water filled glass box is used as a skylight which would be bringing ever-changing diffuse daylight thorough out the day and the water movement in skylight would be creating a dynamic rippling effect on the floor.
The spaces within the Bathroom suite are organised considering the flow pattern of user as Walk-in closet is near entrance while Shower area and Jaccuzi are at the end. This organization of spaces would also be helpful in separating wet areas and dry areas.

The intent behind the design is to make the park an important aspect of neighbourhood reisdents by providing facilities and activities which can improve the lifestyle of the low income earning residents of surrounding neighbiourhoods. The basic approach is to strive for a balance between sport facilities, culturally inspired relaxation spaces and commercial functions. The park is divided in two parts by De-Silva road which is ideal for ultra conservative surrounding society so as one part can be is designed to be utilised for family and kids and the second part will be utilized specifically for men. The commercialization of six major corridors in the PECHS precinct caused a boom of commercial activity in the area, causing the real estate value to shoot up hence resulting in a lot of old houses being replaced by multistoried commercial ventures. This loss of heritage is becoming a cause of concern as a major part of Karachi’s history is represented in this style of architecture. recreational spaces in the over all pedestrian network. The transportation system is set on the principles of the multi modal system. The design for this precinct incorporates a light rail system that starts form Kashmir sport Complex, that is connecting it with a city level amenity which can serve as an open space for the area; this is done by connecting it through Allama Iqbal Road. The light rail system passes through the food street on Allama Iqbal Road and passes through Tariq road, moving further down it picks height as it passes through the recreation of the CBD finally terminating at Jheel Park. The concept of the design is to tie in all the identified potential zones existing in the precinct. These places are connected and established as important land marks making them significant for a city. All of these features are contributors of retail market, corporate sector, services and amenities. These are the perfect ingredients for any Central Business District; features both city level and neighborhood level.

The area between Hill Park and Jheel Park has been redeveloped into a high rise high density zone, this area had the maximum potential for this kind of development since the two parks buffering it from the surrounding area act as the compensating open spaces to the high rise this area would cater to. The two parks act as the natural buffers and help the termination of the high rise high density to terminate through the area.

The central business district particularly targeting the corporate sector of the city consists of high-rises; residential and commercial towers, ranging from G+40 to G+100 stories and a central recreational space to add more life to the CBD. The central business district will be approached by both; the public and private transport and also by the light rail system i.e. the pedestrian linkage to Tariq road and K.M.C sports complex. The recreational zone is completely pedestrianized and situated in the center of central business district. It is located between the Jheel park and Hill park and is linked with each module and through light rail to Tariq road. Thus creating a core of recreational activities for city dwellers. The design is formulated in a way that the towers are arranged in modules on the periphery with cul-de- sac given at the end of each module, for the access of private vehicles. The module design of towers, consist of 12 towers of which 6 are mixed landuse whereas 6 are purely commercial. Designed parking spaces are given in each module, whereas parking plazas are given at the equal intervals throughout the design.

DESIGN LAYOUT ALLAMA IQBAL ROAD The parcel of Allama iqbal, between khalid bin walid and jheel park have been pedestrianed so as to trim down vehicular circulation on tariq road as well. The strip is designed as a food street that facilitates shoppers throughout the day and would add up to the night life of the area. Also spaces have been designed for hawkers so as to arrange them as per shoppers’ convenience and to reduce the possibility of any future encroachments. To add up to the street life, Light rail stops have also been designed with sitting spaces, newspaper stands and several other utilities.

SKETCHING To begin with I was not really fond of sketching till I join the Architecture school. My interest grew overtime while studying architecture and soon I S H A H Z A I B 2005 -17
started taking sketching as a primary language for capturing thoughts, exploring ideas, and then sharing those ideas with other people. Ever since, sketching has been my way of expressing myself, developing ideas and explaining an idea in a language which can be easily understand.
Now I belief that sketching is about taking advantage of our innate ability to see both with our eyes and with our mind's eye in order to discover ideas that are otherwise invisible, develop those ideas quickly and intutively, and then share those ideas with other people in a way they can easily get it.

3D MAX & SKETCHUP There is no doubt that 3DS MAX is one of the most powerful software in the architectural industry that generates renderings which are S H A H Z A I B 2011 -17
very realistic. I started exploring with 3ds Max as an Architecture student, though the software is really broad in nature but at the same time it is also intuitive enough for one to grasp the basics relatively easily. I learned the basics of 3ds Max modelling early on as a student but did not want far ahead in experimenting and exploring renderings with different plugins of 3ds Max because of two main reasons.
The first reason is that I started using SketchUp as well for my conceptual designs as I found SketchUp more simpler, faster and great tool to explain your thoughts. Sketchup free warehouse, styles and layout for presentation made me explore it much more then 3ds Max and I end up using it for much of my professional work too.
KINDERGARTEN, RIYADH
Whereas, the second reason for not exploring renderings in greater depth on 3ds Max and Sketchup is the emergence of Specialized Architectural Visualizer profession. During my time with Imar, Urban Consultants, I used to develop detailed 3d models of my designs, select materials and the Architectural Visualizer used to render it professionally.
Lastly, I belief I can explore renderings in greater depth with SketchUp and 3ds MAx if the situation arises as I already know the basics of it but it would take some serious effort especially in the begining.

From my high school time, I had an interest in architecture and photography. My interest further grew as I joined the architecture school. As an architect you tend to look buildings differently. We architects are always thinking about perespective, balance, light, textures etc. as we look to a building and sometime even correcting building elevations in our mind while walking by it.
As I had to travel around due to work and being fond of travelling, I started to take pictures of incredible nature which is present everywhere from the deserts of Saudi Arabia to the beautiful white sand beaches of Australia. Therefore, most of my photography is focused on nature and architecture.
Pakistan geography is very diversified, it contains deserts, forests, hills, plateau, lakes and moutain ranges. I started exploring Pakistan with my high school friends and soon I joined some other travelling group and whenever I get some spare time I travel to north of pakistan which I belief is truly spectacular and I wish to visit it again and again.

SAUDI ARABIA 2009 - 2017
Soon after my graduation, I got an opportunity for work in Saudi Arabia. It was a tough call but I went ahead for the opportunity. The begining of your professional career is usually hard and I did feel it too but the only thing that keep me going is my passion for architecture and the blessing named weekends. I started to roam around the city on weekends and within some months I started exploring Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia is currently under development so there is a lot of construction going on, so in between design and construction of projects, I did some efforts to keep my passion of photography alive.

BAHRAIN 2011
The trip to bahrain was like a short break or in other words it was like a deep breath after a hard workout. It was only a 3 day trip in which I tried my best to capture Bahrain as I could. Bahrain was different from its dominant and conservative neighbour Saudi Arabia. I can feel more freedom as soon as I get off the plane.
Manama the capital of Bahrain was pretty well developed with a view of skyscrapers all around you if you are in city center and as you started to move away from city center you would find evidences of Bahrain architecture heritage. I think Bahrain is good place for short visits as the country itself quite small but provides quite relaxing environment and is tourist friendly.

DUBAI - UAE 2014 & 2015
It was a vacation overdue since I started working in Middle east. With out any doubt, Dubai is the leading international city of middle east and frequently visited by tourists, businessman and people around the globe. It is a city which has a slice for everyone and it never sleeps.
Dubai architecture is dominated by Skyscrapers and iconic structures which are globally renowned therefore it was really an interesting trip as an Architect. The view from the top of Burj Khalifa is quite spectacular especially on a clear day, you can see all the city from there.
One of the interesting trend that I observe there in newly developed projects was the presence of Islamic architecture that is amalgamated really intelligently with new modern architecture. It was good to see the essence of the regional context in new contemporary architecture.

PETRA, JORDAN 2014 Perhaps the best thing you can do on an extended weekend is to travel, so I did the same and went on to see one of the New 7 wonders of the world called Petra. I was fascinated by the huge scale and rock-cut architecture of Petra.
Petra was established as early as 312 BC as the capital city of the Arab Nabataeans. Petra is half-built, half-carved into the rock, and is surrounded by mountains riddled with passages and gorges. The architectural style of the Nabataeans was a blend of Assyrian, Egyptian, Hellenistic, and Roman influences that were incorporated into the unique architecture of Petra.

ISTANBUL, TURKEY 2015 The visit to istanbul was really a memorable as once I planned it before too during studies but at that time it was not materilized. Istanbul is Turkey's economic, historical and cultural center. The city is a transcontinental city in Eurasia. It contains an eyeful of breathtaking architecture which would keep any architect really occupied.
The Architecture of Istanbul is a mixture of structures which reflect the many influences that have made an indelible mark in all districts of the city over time. The ancient part of the city is still partially surrounded by the Walls of Constantinople. The architecture inside the city contains buildings, statues, and functional constructions which came from Byzantine, Genoese, Ottoman, and modern Turkish sources.

BAKU, AZERBAIJAN 2015 Azerbaijan is located between Turkey, Iran and Russia. Just as its geographical position Azerbaijan has mixed culture having ingredients from Iran, Turkey and Russia. What bring my interest in visiting the country was the opening ceremony of 1st European games that I was watching on TV. The games were held in Baku which is the Capital of Azerbaijan. The opening ceremony provided me a glimpse of what I can expect and then I further research about Baku and found it really fascinating.
My trip was mostly consumed by Baku. The architecture of the city was a nice blend of well maintained hostoric buildings and new Iconic public buildings such as Heydar Aliyev Center designed by Zaha Hadid, Baku airport, Flame towers and Baku Crystal hall. One can fell while roaming the city that the government has the intention to create iconic landmarks public buildings. Apart from new contemporary buildings it was really amazing to visit the old city of baku which is still really well maintained and is enclosed by by boundary wall that was most probably built for safety purposes of the old city.
Lastly I think Azerbaijan was quite different from the places I visit and If I have the opportunity I would love to visit again.

Australia was like a dream for me since childhood and one of the reason for that was the Australian Cricket team which consitently perform well over the last two decades. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to move to Australia. Apart from the cricket, I am always fascinated by beaches and without any doubt Australia have that in great numbers.
As I landed in Perth and roam around I tried to capture the city as best I can though I belief its just a mere begining. I would love to explore more, move around cities when I found time, Learn more about architectural practice in the country, observe current trends in country architecture and blend myself in Australian society.
