Academic/ Individual Project
Given the convergence of environmental, economic, and public health challenges worldwide, effective, sustainable, and equitable housing has never been more fundamental to the tenet of long-term social health. Reconsiderations of how to address the contemporary challenges of sustainable housing and urban ecologies are essential. The Site is located in the Westloop Chicago, and I tred to explore novel residential typologies that exploit the synthetic interplay between architecture, natural ecologies, and public experience. The productive and cultural roles of diverse landscapes are examined to promote a revisioning of urban resiliency and regeneration. The transformative and temporal attributes of ‹landscape› are researched and exploited as source ‹material› in the design of an environmentally supportive residential community. To achieve these goals, I divided the project into three parts:
1)Landscape(TheideaofUrbanForestry)
2)UrbanStrategiesandNaturalElements(Mounds)
3)ArchitectureBuilding
Using the idea of Urban Forestry to increase the canopy tree of the west loop. This idea leads me to propose different urban strategies for the future and the main design concept. The proposed building is a part of the Site that attaches both blocks by the bridge.
These three parts make the proposal design work well as a public space for the West Loop and a residential area for the residents.
One of the crucial features of architecture is its expansion. In this way, houses can be changed based on the demand and needs of users. For example, a one-bedroom house can be converted into a two-bedroom, two-bedroom, or three-bedroom house if needed. In addition, the project has the potential to add more units over time. As the Site’s trees are growing, the building is also expanding.
