It has been another productive week here in the Middle School and we all continue to enjoy the gradual change in the weather. Last week we reminded you of the importance of students wearing shoes that cover their feet. Comfortable sports shoes that cover the feet are necessary to avoid injury within an active Middle School. Open sandals and “flip flops are not acceptable during the school day and students who do not comply will be asked to call home for a pair of shoes. We also repeat the importance of a hat for sun safety and a reusable water bottle to keep hydrated as the temperatures begin to rise. Thank you for your support in these health and safety matters. The Grade 6 and 7 students met today to learn about the course registration process for the 2009-10 academic year. They were issued a Program of Studies and if by chance you did not see it - please go to the CAC web site to learn about the program offerings available next year. http://www.cacegypt.org/ms/PDF/MSProgramStudies0910.pdf. CAC is about to hold an election for the Board of Trustees. We are pleased that all the candidates running for the Board have first hand experience with the Middle School! So please attend the Annual General Meeting next Tuesday and vote in the days ahead. Classes resume on Monday, April 13 at 11:30 after the faculty complete a variety of professional development activities related to technology, standardized test data and assessments within our curriculum. Thank you for your ongoing support of the CAC Middle School and enjoy the Easter weekend!
Sincerely,

Middle School Activities
Chocolate Kiss Book Reward Congratulations to all the families who have managed to return overdue books to the CAC Library and the Middle School Book Room. If your child has overdue books, there’s still time to return them before The Chocolate Kiss Book Reward! On Wednesday, April 15 the Middle School will hold a Chocolate Kiss Book Reward. How does it work? Any student who returns overdue books, renews anything still being used, or pays for lost books gets a chocolate kiss. Students should stop by the Middle School Book Room during lunchtime on April 15 for a chocolate kiss – and maybe check out something new to read! Earth Day is Everyday at CAC The Middle School will be calling upon the House System to show their commitment to simple steps that reinforce a sustainable future on the planet. These activities in the Middle School are part of an overall awareness building process to take action in terms of the environment. Help your child prepare for these events. Earth Week House Team Challenges: Earth Week is coming! Are you ready for an Earth-related challenge? During the week of April 21 - 23, we will have three challenges for you. Points will be awarded by House Team and the team that receives the most points at the end of the week will have their team name added to an “Environmental Action Award” plaque that will be displayed on campus for years to come. Are you up for the challenge? Date Tuesday, April 21

Eco-Pledges 2009 Looking for a way to see what our students are doing to protect our wonderful home we call Planet Earth? Want to know what actions other people in our school community are taking to make a difference to the environment? Go to the EcoPledges 2009 link (http://www.cacegypt.org/Green/EcoPledge.php) on the CAC school website in the weeks ahead. As we commit to "taking small steps toward sustainability", we hope you and your students find this a useful medium for sharing your ideas. Counselors Corner
Parents: 2009-10 Grade 6 and 7 Course Registration is now Underway The current Grade 6 and 7 students met with the counselors Thursday to receive information about the exploratory course registration process as future students of Grade 7 and 8. The 2009-10 Program of Studies and the change to a Trimester system for the new academic year and the implications for scheduling were explained to the students. Many of the students’ questions about classes, requirements, and scheduling were answered by the counselors during the session. Each student was given a Program of Studies guide and a course registration card that needs to be completed and returned to the counseling office no later than April 13. Parents can expect their student to bring these materials home with them on Thursday. Both parent and student must sign the course registration card. If any parent has a question about the registration process, please do not hesitate to contact either Jo Jean Schulte (A-K counselor) or Patrick Kimerer (L-Z)
