Frédérick OUELLET & Catherine MORIN Catherine Morin est née à Montréal en 1990. Ses œuvres mettent en scène l’humain, qu’elle explore à partir de son observation du quotidien. De l’architecture du corps, elle est passée à un intérêt grandissant pour l’architecture moderne : ses formes, sa géométrie imperturbable, sa froideur et le vide, qui s’en dégage pour mieux refermer le néant autour de nous. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Catherine Morin was born in Montreal in 1990. His works depict the human, she explores from his observation of everyday life. The architecture of the body, it increased to a growing interest in modern architecture: its forms, its imperturbable geometry, his coldness and emptiness, that emerges to better close the nothingness around us.

Inspiré principalement des périodes baroque et surréaliste, son travail demeure le lieu par excellence des représentations mentales que l’on se fait des émotions brutes, témoin des tendances chaotiques de son univers intérieur. Chaque tableau est une évolution selon un état d’âme, puis scénarisé à partir de souvenirs et sentiments où l’artiste tente, à travers des thématiques introspectives, d’en extraire les possibilités métaphoriques. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Passionated about drawing since childhood, he places the motive of the imaginary to the heart of his research, using a variety of painting techniques. Inspired mainly baroque and surreal periods, his work remains the place of mental representations that we have of raw emotion, witnessed the chaotic tendencies of his inner world. Each painting is a change in a state of mind and scripted from memories and feelings which the artist attempts, through introspective themes, extract the metaphorical possibilities.

Reno HÉBERT & Dominique DESBIENS Dominique Desbiens fait des études à Montréal de 1991 à 1995 en arts graphiques. Il conçoit certaines images éditoriales, affiches, couvertures de magazines et pochettes d’albums de musique, réalisant parallèlement un grand nombre de murales intérieures et extérieures dans différents quartiers de Montréal. Il se consacre davantage à ses travaux personnels en peinture depuis le début des années 2000, une œuvre qui s’inscrit dans le mouvement de la relève actuelle montréalaise.

Painter Dominique Desbiens began his career as a comic artist in the 90ies. At the time, he was in charge of various publications. In recent years, Desbiens’ work has received much recognition: prolific and well versed, Desbiens has produced a solid oeuvre which encompasses writing, painting, sculpture, illustration, and design. In 2007, he launched his book of art & poetry ‘’Il manque aux humains un prédateur’’. Involved in Montreal’s artistic community, Desbiens’ profession as a painter has taken root from his participation in numerous art shows and events such as live painting. Dominique Desbiens is also renowned for his extraordinary ease with mural painting. In 2008, he produced one which is permanently exhibited nearby Jean-Talon metro, in Montreal.

ZOLTAN & Étienne CHARTRAND Zoltan Veevaete est un artiste dédié et passionné par l’histoire de l’art. Il transporte le spectateur dans plusieurs directions à la fois. Ses toiles sont percutantes et intelligentes, et elles agissent comme un film culte, où chacun des visionnements permet à l’auditoire de s’imprégner de nouveaux éléments. Les niveaux de lecture de ses œuvres sont simples et très complexes à la fois; une sorte de mise en abyme qui reflète les multiples couches de notre existence.

Zoltan Veevaete is a dedicated artist with a passion for world art history. His unique style transports spectators into multiple territories at once. His paintings are incisive and intelligent, acting almost as a cult movie would. With each viewing the experience allows new perspective, unveils surprising new elements. Reading his works is both a simple and complex exercise; interpretation multiplies in order to reflect the complexities of our modern lives.

Il partage cette attitude comme il partage le goût de cette mouvance pour un style graphique aux couleurs saturées, qui trouve son inspiration tant dans les dessins d’enfants que la BD ou les objets de consommation courante. Puisant autant dans sa propre mémoire que dans celle de notre mémoire collective, l’artiste crée un monde éminemment personnel où se mêlent gangsters truculents aux pieds démesurés, locomotives hilares, dinosaures bon enfant et brosses à dents colossales.

Étienne Chartrand comes from Street art, an art from a culture that embraces the irony facing the labels, genealogies and forced references. He shares this attitude as he shares the taste of this movement for a graphic style with saturated colors, which finds inspiration in both children’s drawings as BD or everyday consumer objects. Drawing in its own memory and in that of our collective memory, the artist creates a highly personal world where gangsters earthy mix with oversized feet, hilarious locomotives, good-colossal dinosaurs and brush teeth.

Collectif CEASE CEASE est un collectif basé à Montréal fondé par Alan Ganev, AJ Korkidadis & Laurier Clark. CEASE crée des projets collaboratifs artistiques mariant arts visuels, design et technologie. L’organisation estime que l’identité artistique de Montréal réside dans le désordre de ses galeries, des multiples studios et des collectifs existant. Il s’efforce de partager et de contribuer à cette identité par le biais d’évènements. Collectif EN MASSE EN MASSE, basée à Montréal, est une initiative de collaboration artistique fondé par Jason Botkin et Tim Barnard en 2009, dans le but de permettre a des artistes émergents «néo-Pop» d’explorer la création d’une œuvre collective en réalisant un projet beaucoup plus important que s’ils étaient chacun de leur coté. EN MASSE is a Montreal-based collaborative drawing initiative founded by Jason Botkin and Tim Barnard in 2009, with the intention of allowing emerging “Neo-Pop” artists an opportunity to explore the creation of a collective vision, greater than each could create on their own. With backgrounds in graphic novels, graffiti, design and the fine arts, the artists who take part in the project, working always in black and white, create highly spontaneous, site-specific large-scale drawings.

TRIO MAGNUS TRIO MAGNUS est un collectif basé à Toronto composé d’illustrateurs plusieurs fois récompensées : Clayton Hanmer, Aaron Leighton et Steve Wilson. Formé en 2007, le but initial de ce collectif était de dessiner dans des carnets de croquis tout en écoutant Zeppelin et en buvant de la bière. Le collectif a continué à créer de l’art sous toutes ses formes pour diverses raisons, y compris un livre intitulé ‘Equally Superior’’ (Koyama Press, 2007) comprenant des illustrations, des installations, de la sérigraphie ainsi que d’énormes dessins collectifs, certains allant jusqu’à 18 pieds de long. En dehors des diverses galeries à Toronto, TRIO MAGNUS a exposé son travail à Tokyo au ‘’Design Fiesta’’ et à Calgary, a la galerie ‘’UPPERCASE’’. Réunis d’abord par amour des carnets de croquis, des personnages et des excès visuels, les membres de TRIO MAGNUS continuent à libérer leur créativité sur des surfaces vierges de toutes sortes, en ne faisant aucun prisonnier et en passant des bons moments. ------------------------------------------------------------------TRIO MAGNUS is a Toronto-based illustration collective featuring award-winning illustrators, Clayton Hanmer, Aaron Leighton and Steve Wilson. Formed in 2007 with the express purpose of drawing in sketchbooks while listening to Zeppelin and drinking beer, the group has gone on to create all sorts of art for all sorts of reasons, including a book titled Equally Superior (Koyama Press, 2007), editorial illustrations, installations, silkscreened prints and art shows featuring huge collaborative drawings, some up to 18 feet long. TRIO MAGNUS has also exhibited their work in Tokyo at Design Festa and in Calgary at UPPERCASE gallery, as well as having done live drawing at both the Toronto Comic Arts Festival and the Canadian Beatbox Championships in Toronto. Brought together initially by a love of sketchbooks, characters and visual excess, the members of TRIO MAGNUS continue to unleash creative kung-fu on blank surfaces of all types, taking no prisoners and having a great time along the way.

GAIA Gaia, est un artiste new-yorkais basé à Baltimore qui utilise une technique de collage en milieu urbain. Il appose des images peintes, dessinées, sérigraphiées sur du papier qu’il affiche sur les cimaises de nos villes. De Baltimore à San Francisco en passant par Amsterdam et Séoul, Gaia a sillonné les grandes villes de la planète pour intégrer ce réseau international et informel d’artistes qui utilisent l’environnement urbain comme une plateforme à la fois source et sujette à la créativité et à l’activisme social. Grâce à des interventions artistiques, Gaia, qui agit sous un pseudonyme qui réfère – dans la mythologie Grecque – à la Déesse mère, travaille sur des problématiques liées à l’immigration, la ségrégation et dénonce les motivations économiques irresponsables qui affaiblissent les communautés vulnérables. “Parmi les noms qui reviennent toujours lorsqu’on évoque le street art, il y a Gaia. Working in cities that range from Baltimore and San Francisco to Amsterdam and Seoul, Gaia is one of a legion of anonymous street artists who take the urban environment as a platform for creative expression and social activism. Through artistic interventions, Gaia, who operates under a pseudonym that refers to the Greek earth goddess, has explored such issues as immigration and segregation, the need to foster the presence of nature within urban contexts, and the economic motivations that can weaken communities through irresponsible development. “among the names you’ll see again and again these days is Gaia...he’s an artistof-the-moment, and prints of his that were for sale at a recent exhibition at Ad Hoc Art in Bushwick sold out.” – The New York Times
