From the General Manager, Mark Reid We are pleased that we have crossed over the 300 mark for our membership. This level of membership is still easy to accommodate and is our benchmark for a very financially healthy club. We welcome our new members and we thank our entire membership for spreading the good information about the Club that is helping us remain vibrant and successful while keeping our unique pricing low. We are eager to start another wonderful prime season of Golf. After struggling last year while we accommodated single rider carts, we truly believe we are far enough along in the vaccination process that we are
We welcome our new members and we thank our entire membership for spreading the good information about the Club returning to our standard policy of two to a cart. This is imperative to support pace of play. We understand that when two are in a cart, they are closer in proximity than 6 feet. If you have not received one of the three available vaccines, we encourage you to wear a mask while in the cart, providing that you do not have a health condition that would preclude you from wearing a mask. If an additional accommodation is required, please let the Golf Shop know when you make a tee time. A single rider cart will be provided for
an additional fee of $20.00. With many members, it is important that everyone refresh on the Rules and Regulations of the Club. These Rules and Regulations can be found in the Members section of the Club website at lakewoodoakscc.com. Members and their guests should take a moment to understand our rules and dress code and reach out to the golf professional staff if there are any questions. dress code expectation, and we will politely remind those who overlook these conditions. Course care is a team effort, including members and staff. Keeping the golf cart under control at all times and on the cart path when required is imperative. Much of the damage to the course is done by carts leaving the cart path incorrectly or when ground conditions do not support cart traffic. Again, this is a team effort to prevent damage and assure that the quality of the course is to everyone’s expectations.

Golf season is finally getting into full swing. You will begin to see more and more activity on the course, in the golf shop, and around the practice facilities. You will also notice quite a few new faces around the Club, as well as membership levels continue trending upward. With all of these factors, it seems like the perfect time to discuss a few policies and procedures that you may or may not be aware of. Tee Time Policy Tuesday mornings between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., we take tee time requests for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the current week, as well as Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the following

week. Simply call the golf shop and request the days and times that you are looking to play during the upcoming week.

Between noon and 2:00 p.m., we run a lottery system for the most requested times. Exact tee times are then input into the online tee sheet and available for viewing at lakewoodoakscc.com. Once those tee sheets are opened, you are able to edit, add, or delete your tee times. If you have any questions about booking tee times or using the online tee sheet, please contact the golf shop.
The putting green on the south side of the clubhouse is intended mainly for putting or a few short chips below knee height. The larger green between the clubhouse and #18 green is meant to be used for putting, as well as short chips (less than 15 yards). If you are hitting flop shots or any shot above head height, please repair ball marks on the chipping/putting green after your practice session. Any shot over 15 yards should be aimed at the small target green just over the practice bunker.

April 2021 Most likely the remainder of this month, we will hit from the synthetic turf line. For safety sake, please only hit shots from that mat. The turf will allow for a ball to be teed up in the synthetic material, so there is no need to go just in front of or just behind that to hit your driver. Event Sign Up Event information, sign ups, and results will all be processed via USGA Tournament Management (Golf Genius) Software. Simply choose “Event Central” tab on lakewoodoakscc.com and you will be able to browse current, future, and past events. If you have any questions or are having difficulty navigating the website or finding event information that you are looking for, please contact the golf shop. Sheet-Pan Suppers are one of the latest trends in cooking at home. They require less prep and easy clean up. Here’s a healthy one I think you will enjoy.

CHEF’S WHIM: RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Lemon-Dijon Pork Sheet-Pan Supper Ingredients: • • • • • • • •
4 teaspoons Dijon mustard (or spicy brown mustard if you want more zing) 2 teaspoons grated lemon zest 1 garlic clove, minced ½ tablespoon canola oil About 3 medium sweet potatoes, cut into ½ inch cubes 1 pound fresh Brussels sprouts (about 4 cups), quartered 4 boneless pork loin chops (6 ounces each) Coarsely ground pepper, optional
Directions: 1. Preheat over 425 degrees. In a large bowl, mix first 4 ingredients; gradually whisk in oil. Reserve 2 tablespoon mixture. Add vegetables to remaining mixtures; toss to coat. 2. Place pork chops and vegetables in a 15 X 20 X 1 inch pan coated with cooking spray. Brush chops with reserved mustard mixture. Roast 10 minutes. 3. Turn chops and stir vegetables; roast until a thermometer inserted in pork reads 145 degrees and vegetables are tender, 10-15 minutes longer. If desired, sprinkle with pepper.

WGA / MGA WGA (LOWGA) Golfing season is about to begin, and our Snowbirds are slowly making their way home. We look forward to “teeing off “our 2021 season with an opening day meeting followed by golf. I love the unbreakable bonds we make as members of Lakewood Oaks Women’s Golf Association. My husband and I decided to become Snowbirds for the first time this year. Ironically, we stayed in a golfing community in Florida, also named Lakewood. A new experience for us but a very pleasant surprise to find out a few of our LOWGA members happened to be close by. We were excited to golf together during our winter stay and share an occasional beach-side dinner. We greatly miss our golfing friends during the winter months because many are scattered to various warm climates. We cannot wait to see each other again in the spring to share our winter stories. If you are a golfer and would like to become a part of our wonderful group of golfing friends, you should come out and play with us. Our handicaps vary from high to low, but that is the great part of handicaps, because on the golf course, we are all equal! Thank you. I look forward to seeing you on the course. MGA (LOMGA) April is finally here. The MGA is excited about the upcoming golf season at Lakewood. A couple dates to note this month: • Saturday, April 24, 2021, MGA opening day. It will be a great day, so please sign up in the golf genius portal when available. • Tuesday, April 27, 2021, will be our first Men’s League event. Also a few reminders: • No more denim/jeans after March 31, 2021. Please make sure you are wearing proper golf attire with a tucked in shirt. • This is a great time of year to upgrade your golf wardrobe and golf accessories such as bags, shoes, clothing, etc. Some of you need to upgrade all of this. (You know who are!) Lakewood Artists Exhibit Written by Patti Browder
Rick &Kathy Scaletty During the months of March and April, The Argyle Gallery has featured a third exhibit by underwater photographer, Rick Scaletty, and a premier exhibit of a few watercolor paintings by his wife, Kathy.

In his past Lakewood exhibits, Rick told us how his underwater photography evolved into a lifetime project to save the oceans and sea life.
After retiring as a Nurse Educator from Research College of Nursing several years ago, Kathy now has the time to pursue her own creativity in a way she has always wanted. While Kathy and Rick spent some of their winter months in their RV in Tucson, Arizona, Kathy started dabbling in watercolor with local artists in the park and taking online watercolor classes with Geoff Kersey, an English artist.
Rick Scaletty started scuba diving as a hobby in 1986. Amazed not only with the beauty of sea life, but also how the survival of so many sea creatures depend on their symbiotic relationships, it became his passion to capture these special moments in the water with a camera. Since Rick first exhibited in our gallery, his scuba diving trips to magic underwater places have been on hold due to the pandemic. He looks forward to resuming his diving trips soon.
In his environmental activist role, Rick uses his underwater images to show the beauty of the underwater world that is rapidly disappearing. He loves sharing slides of his photos with schools and clubs. His hope is that those who see his art learn to appreciate the significance of our natural world and become better stewards of our planet. It’s easy to

Rick and his wife, Kathy, have been enjoying life in Lakewood since 1985. They raised two daughters and look forward to sharing fun at the lake with their first grandson, two months old. They treasure the many friends they have made here, enjoy getting out on the lake, and taking yoga classes with their neighbors. Stop by The Argyle Gallery and view the talented watercolor works of Kathy Scaletty and unique underwater photography of Rick Scaletty. Stay for dinner and spend an evening dining in the company of other Lakewood souls who appreciate art and great food.

From the LOCC Golf Club Committee With the continuing transition from Lakewood Oaks to Lakewood Oaks Country Club, the Golf Committee stresses the importance of communication involving all club activities, ranging from golf etiquette to major renovation projects. With communication being the cornerstone of this transition process, it is imperative members utilize all avenues of communication, including ClubLife, emails from staff, and LOCC website (lakewoodoakscc.com). Did you know your Golf Committee launched a “Caring for the Course” program? The goal of this program is to add just a little extra TLC on just ONE HOLE, assigned to you. What can I do to assist in “Caring for the Course”? • Replace or tamp down divots on tee box or in fairway. • Pick up any sticks you happen to walk by in the rough. • Repair unattended ball marks on the green. • Ensure yourself and players in your group are entering the sand bunkers from the low side and properly raking after playing. • Take note of anything on your hole that you think is array and bring it to the attention of Brian.

Scott, his wife Lisa, and their two boys have called Lakewood Oaks their home course for the past 11 years. Scott grew up in KC Northland and Lisa is from Blue Springs area. They have lived in Lee’s Summit for the last 19 years. Off the golf course, Scott is a financial advisor with Edward Jones, where he enjoys helping others achieve their investment goals.

Val is in her fourth season as a member of LOGC, and she loves the course, the members, and the staff. She enjoys golf, her granddaughter and time with family and friends.

Jim and his wife, Cathy, live in Blue Springs. They have three kids in their 20’s who’ve all been seriously bitten by the golf bug of late... what a great way to spend family time! Jim has been a member at Lakewood for 11 years and cherishes the relationships he’s made with golf buddies and staff.
DONNA ROUND
Donna Round and husband, Tom, enjoy golfing and spending time with their three grandkids. Tom has lived in Lakewood for over 37 years. Donna is one of those who started golf later in life, but is hooked.
CHRIS JOHNS
Chris and his wife, Sarah, live in Lakewood and have two school-age daughters. The Johns are now members for the second time at Lakewood after moving back from Arizona. Lakewood has been a big part of the Johns’ life while living in Lee’s Summit, and he looks forward to seeing the Club continue to grow.
