July
From the General Manager, Mark Reid A lot of our planning and work is coming to fruition in July. The new East Lake Play Park is now ready for tons of fun. Although the heat was almost unbearable during some of the construction stages, I and the construction crew were touched by the random act of kindness by an unknown family who brought cold beverages and chocolate chip cookies to the site for the workers with the a note “Thank you for building our play park”. Whoever you are, you represent the best of Lakewood. We have finished the East Lake Marina Renovation. This is the end of the planned improvements for the East and West Marinas under a program that was approved 3 years ago and prior to the pandemic. We also did additional maintenance while the Tiger Docks crew was here and installed Stainless Steel Cables to the rest of the docks that had previously installed galvanized steel cables. Over the past year, the old cables, after years of corrosion and wear, started snapping in the high winds that Lee’s Summit experiences from time to time. We are extremely pleased that we now have reliable anchorage and do not have to fight to hold the docks in place when a cable snaps. We are finishing the deforestation and removal of all woody vegetation from the shoulders of the West Lake Dam and the shoulders and toe of the East Lake Dam. This is in compliance with a directive from Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Dam Safety Division. When you look at the Dams now, It looks more like they did when they were new 50 years ago. We are finishing the plans for the East Lake Pool Parking lot expansion. This will be a fall project so we don’t disrupt the existing parking any more this season. I look forward to hearing from membership during this years “Lakewood Improvement Program” request submittals. The form can be found at lpoa.com and must be completed and returned by July 31. This is a fantastic way to hear from the members as to what they want to see for Lakewood in the future. Enjoy your amenities this summer and remember to visit the Argyle for a wonderful dining experience.
