August From the General Manager, Mark Reid

All is well in Lakewood so this month I just want to touch on some need-to-know items. 1 | June CPI made headlines due to the 9.1% rate of inflation. Although it is hard to predict, a review of most years of June to July date shows that the rate change from June to July remains fairly flat. Therefore, it looks like our baseline data for our 2023 dues calculation is going to be approx. 9.1%. 2 | In order to achieve our most reliable and professional corporate look for the community, we will be adopting LinkedIn as our corporate page in social media and terminating our presence on Facebook. We will also be migrating to Constant Contact for our community communications and messaging media. You will no longer get messages from Mail Chimp. 3 | The New East Lake Play park is complete, and all the smiles we see from the kiddos and parents is super pleasing. We have a couple of light posts to set and some trees to plant this fall. The planned expansion of the East Lake Pool facility parking lot is on track for this year and we are completing the civil engineering and moving to obtain permits. 4 | The Alpine Court Pond off of Woods Chapel Road is in the process of having 50 years of retained migrated silt deposits removed. The job of this pond is to catch the silt from upstream transfer and collect it so it does not enter the main lake. This type of job is ugly and we will be bringing in big equipment to get the job finished as fast as possible. Once the silt is spread out over the common ground to the south of the pond, it will dry and then we will grade it and mat and seed it to return it all to a beautiful area for the next 50 years.

5 | Due to uncontrolled inflation and multiple price increases, the Board of Director has wisely directed that the new Pickleball facility planned for this fall will now be pushed back to 2023. We are going to make a few adjustments to the design of the overall facility and put it out for competitive bids before budget planning time this year. The Board will reconsider the overall cost and merits of this facility when they set the 2023 Lakewood Improvements Budget. Have an enjoyable, memorable and safe August!

From the Boardroom

Terry White, Board President It is August. For some of you, summer is in full swing. For others, summer is winding down. I hope you have had the opportunity to take advantage of any part of what summer in Lakewood has to offer. If you are an early walker or early to work, you have seen some magnificent sunrises. This season has also gifted us with sunsets unlike many I remember, with hues of orange and red and pink and blue and purple, many spectacular. Our wildlife has been interesting this summer. I opened my front door one morning to check the weather before walking and there on my front step sat a beautiful fox. Neither of us hung around for long. When I walk, I hear the birds, the cardinals, the doves, and in the evening an occasional owl. You might be one of the lucky ones to witness our majestic eagles as they swoop over the water or the graceful herons as they move from dock to dock. Maybe you, or members or your family, have enjoyed our courts, basketball, pickleball or tennis. It is nice to drive by and see them being used. Of course, there are the pools. Our pools offer something for everyone of every age. They are used for enjoyment, exercise, lessons, practices, and swim meets. Some just use them for a place to hang out and spend time with family and neighbors, without ever dipping a toe in the water. Summer is time to gather with family and friends and our pavilions provide the perfect outdoor venue for that. Block parties have been popular. My area had one with food trucks, a fire truck, and almost 100 people in attendance. Though I was out of town, I appreciate those who volunteered their time to put it together. Neighbors met new neighbors. If your street or parcel has not had a block party in a while, consider one this fall.

Board of Directors’ Meeting Actions taken July 14, 2022

Approved • Reserve Investment Policy • Amended Trademark License Agreement • Terminate Boat Slip Lease agreement with Mark Cosgrove due to violation of paragraph 10 of contract. • Alpine Court de-siltation project Postponed Funding for Pickle Ball Project for 2022 is now on hold

Our crown jewel is the lake. Though nature presented areas of the lake with problems this year, there is still plenty of lake to enjoy, whether boating, relaxing on a pleasure dock, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, or sailing. Still to come, our big lake party of the summer, Concert on the Rock. There are possibilities to attend by land or water. A thank you to the busy Lakewood Activities Committee for putting this together, along with everything else they do for the community. Though I realize I mentioned it last month, please be safe. Watch out for your neighbors. We live in a unique and special place. We all play a part in keeping it that way. I believe most of the people who live here do so because Lakewood offers them a variety of experiences they want to be a part of their lives. It is why we have lived here for 33 years. How about you?
