We c a t c h u p w i t h R o a r k i n a n u n l i k e l y p l a c e w e l l b e h i n d t h e i ro n c u r t a i n , exposed to the most challenging political, environmental and psychological conditions in recent years. Winter ’s teeth are upon us in places scared by the elements and years of social stratification. As luck would have it, Roark has summoned his inner-optimism en route to a trip wild with rich experience beginning in the streets of St. Petersburg prepping for a sojourn on the road to the Arctic Circle and on to the Trans-Siberian Railroad. The collection i s i n s p i r e d b y t h e c l i m a t e a n d c u l t u r e o f R u s s i a i n t h e f o r m o f Vo d k a l a d e n diplomacy and Kalashnikov justice.

M I Z U : Mizu has supported Roark’s travels for some time. BPA free water from a reusable source is a must. The V10 is double walled and lined in copper keeping the liquid insulated - hot or cold for 24 hours. We used the warm part of the concept filling it up with hot tea on a daily basis.

P R O - L I T E We’re honored to bring Pro-Lite board bags along with us. They are the original travel bag and conjure memories of discovery. There are rumors that Roark slept in one on a Portuguese train’s bathroom from San Sebastian to Lisbon.

M A U R I C E C O L E : MC could be the closest living relative to Roark, so the story goes. When he asked if he could shape a board that suited Roark, we told him to piss off and to stop fucking with us. But he was persistent, so we went to work on the “Shiva.” Roark wanted a utility board, a one board quiver for travel that could perform in various conditions for various styles of surfing. So Maurice crafted a shape with volume spread throughout, low entry rocker, a rounded pin-tail, sharp rails to the nose (because Roark never loses his edge) and fin set-ups for a single, thruster and quad. She’s proven herself in 3’-5’ banks in India, double overhead tubes in Bali and 6’-8’ California point breaks. It’s the most versatile board you’ll ever ride and is adorned with a rangoli print we found on an Indian elephant. The “Shiva” will become available sometime this spring for limited edition order.

X C E L W E T S U I T S : Once again Xcel provided us with quality rubber that kept our spirits high and dry - essential for a surf trip to the Arctic Circle.

E L E C T R I C : Electric’s passionate designers painstakingly created eyewear for our expedition to the Himalayas, and now outfit us with an assortment of shades and goggles on all trips. Roark always exudes calmness and cool under the most extreme conditions - Electric punctuates the vibe with eyewear to match.

D A N N E R B O O T S : Danner was kind enough to provide our feet with boots made in America of leather. As always they performed in every condition including a few bars. We’ve enjoyed using them as riding boots for the motos that transition to the trail - their rugged but stylish nature give us an obvious advantage over a lesser bootman.
