INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL SCIENTIFIC CONGRESS Since 1977 the association of medical students from Macedonia organized the first Medical International Scientific Congress on the coast of the beautiful Ohrid Lake. The Macedonian Medical Student Association – MMSA continues this tradition each year that made this congress the oldest and the most famous in the region. The organizing committee is providing various and interesting program, scientific, as well as social. It is a chance to enhance professional and social relations, share experiences, contribute ideas among medical colleagues and at the same time it is a chance to visit Macedonia and feel the attractions of the beautiful City of Ohrid.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM The program consists of the following formats: 

   

Academic lectures held by professors from the medical faculty in Skopje, as well as internationally renowned speakers and professors of different medical and health topics. Commercial exhibition – watch and learn about new products, services and procedures designed to assist medical and health care professionals, held by educators from leading companies and private clinics. Workshops and sessions on a range of practical topics in medical and health care professions. Oral presentation – selected from submitted abstracts Posters presentations – selected from submitted abstracts Awards – the congress juries awards the best oral and the best poster presentation at the closing ceremony.

SOCIAL PROGRAM This part of the congress is consisted of Official Opening Ceremony with cocktail party, sightseeing Ohrid, boat cruising to St. Naum, The famous traditional beach games, disco and karaoke night, Closing ceremony to reward the best presentation and Farewell pool party.


CONGRESS INFORMATION CONGRESS FORMAT: The programme will include the following formats: 1.Plenary sessions: - oral presentations; - poster presentations; 2. Lectures; 3. Workshops; 4. Post-congress tour; PARTICIPATION: Every student involved in medical or biomedical studies and every young medical doctor can attend the congress. You can participate as active participant (you will attend the plenary sessions, lectures and workshops and have the opportunity to present your research and perhaps win a prize ) or as passive participant (you will attend the plenary sessions, lectures and workshops). You can also publish your abstract in the Abstract Book. OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: The congress is international and therefore the official language will be English. All lectures, workshops and sessions will be in English. The students from Macedonia will have the opportunity to present their research in Macedonian but the power point presentation or the poster must be written in English. There will be no simultaneous interpretation. DEADLINE: Deadline for submitting your abstract and confirming your arrival (active participants) will be 20th April 2014. Deadline for applying as passive participant is: 1. Early registration – 25.04.2014 – 80 euro 2. Late registration – 05.05.2014 – 90 euro ****** In the price is included : 4days/3nights hotel stay with full board ( breakfast, lunch, dinner ), participation to the 37th IMSC and transport from any point in Macedonia to the Hotel ******


CERTIFICATE: Certificate of attendance will be issued to all active and passive participants who fulfill the criteria determined by the OC. The criteria will be announced at the Opening Ceremony of the congress. LOCATION: Hotel Desaret is located near the tourist complex Saint Stefan, 10 km away from Ohrid center, on the regional road Ohrid – Saint Naum, and 15 km from Ohrid airport “Saint Paul The Apostle”.

ABSTRACT INFORMATION

ABSTRACT REQUIREMENTS: Abstracts will be taken into account for the abstract selection procedure only if they are written in English and do not exceed 300 words. The students from Macedonia can submit their abstract written in both: English and Macedonian. The abstracts written only in Macedonian will not be published in the Abstract Book if they are not submitted in English as well. The text must be written in Arial, 11 pt size, use single line spacing. Every abstract must contain the following subheadings: TITLE (written in capital letters) 1. Introduction 2. Materials and methods 3. Results 4. Conclusion 5. Keywords


Case report abstracts should contain the following subheadings: TITLE (written in capital letters) 1. Introduction 2. Case report 3. Conclusion. 4. Keywords When submitting your abstract do not forget to carefully fill in the following lines in the form: - Author(s): The presenting author should be written in CAPITAL letters and the others in lower-case letters. - Mentor(s): - Faculty: - University: - Field of medicine: Before submitting your abstract please use a word counter. Do not exceed the maximum of 300 words. Please do check for spelling and grammar before submitting. After submission, the abstract will be published as it was submitted with no further corrections unless it is required by the Scientific Committee. Write you abstract following the suggestions found in the scientific references for it’s quality will be taken into consideration for winning the prize. SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: - Abstracts can be submitted only via the website of The Macedonian Medical Students’ Association unless technical problems exist. (see below – apply here; you can upload your abstract when you choose “active participant” in the form – it will open the window for abstract submission). - Abstract acceptance notification will be sent to the presenting authors within two weeks time from its date of submission.


- The presenting authors can choose their presentation preference – oral or poster, but the Scientific Committee will make the final decision. If the Scientific Committee make a decision opposite to the one specified by the presenting author it is obliged to inform the author at least 30 days before the congress. ***** If you do not get a confirmation mail within three days that you have successfully submitted your abstract, please contact the Scientific Committee: sci.club.mmsa@gmail.com . The fee for the post-congress tour tour is yet to be determined and should not cost more than 10 €. Details on how you can do the payment will be provided. The fee includes: participation fee, congress materials, transport to Ohrid, accommodation and food (breakfast, lunch, dinner).


PROGRAMME


TRANSPORT AND ACCOMODATION Transport will be provided by bus from Skopje to Ohrid for all participants. All participants will be placed in Hotel Desaret.

Hotel Desaret is located near the tourist complex Saint Stefan, 5 km away from Ohrid center, on the regional road Ohrid – Saint Naum, and 10 km from Ohrid airport “Saint Paul The Apostle”. Hotel Desaret spreads on the shore of Lake Ohrid, placed between crystal blue lake water and greenery of pine forest , where passes trail that leads to monastery Saint Stefan – 720 m altitude above sea level. LOCAL INFORMATION Republic of Macedonia – the land of Alexander the Great, homeland of Mother Teresa, crossroad of civilizations, country where the sun shines forever… Situated in the heart of South East Europe, the Republic of Macedonia remains one of Europe’s last undiscovered countries: a natural paradise of mountains, lakes and rivers, where life moves to a different rhythm, amidst the sprawling grandeur of rich historical ruins and idyllic villages that have remained practically unchanged for centuries. Skopje is the nation`s capital, and also place of many historical landmarks and architectural monuments. The official language in Republic of Macedonia is the Macedonian language, but Macedonia is a multiethnic country, so there are several languages which are spoken like Albanian, Serbian, Croatian, Bulgarian, Bosnian etc. Majority population is ethnic Macedonian and Orthodox but there is also a significant Albanian minority. Macedonia is a wonderful mix of architectural and ethnic heritage: Turks, Serbs, Roma, Hebrew, Bosnians and many others have ever been enriching this country’s culture and architecture. The official monetary unit in Macedonia is denar (den) and approximately 61, 3 MKD = 1 euro; 43, 0 MKD = 1 US. The standard time zone is UTC/GMT + 1 hour the time zone abbreviation is CET – Central European Time. The calling code is +389.


ABOUT OHRID Located southwest of Skopje, near the border with Albania lies the immortal city of Ohrid – kingdom of light and water, a repository of ancient ruins from Macedonia`s earlier kingdoms. Ohrid is notable for having once had 365 churches, one for each day of the year and has been referred to as a “Jerusalem (of the Balkans)”.The city is also rich in picturesque houses and monuments, and one of the Ohrid`s most popular remarks is the lake itself. The uniqueness of the Lake Ohrid and the city`s historical architecture has been attested by UNESCO, honouring it with an official designation as one of the few places on the cultural institution`s list “World Inheritance”.
