10 STEPS TO PROTECT YOUR FAMILY AFTER A CAR ACCIDENT

Being involved in a car accident is frightening and legal issues are certainly not on the top of your mind during the first few minutes after the crash. However, the actions you take, both before and immediately after a car accident, can have a big impact on what will happen to you later in the insurance and legal system. Here are some steps to follow:

Before you are involved in an accident make sure you have proper car insurance. Be sure that you have Full Tort, not Limited Tort. Also, be sure that you have at least $100,000 of Uninsured and Underinsured coverage to protect your family from irresponsible drivers on the road having little or no car insurance.

Immediately after the accident call the police – 911.

Photograph the accident scene, the vehicles and any injuries you sustained.

Get the other driver’s contact and insurance information.

Report the accident to your car insurance company.

Don’t talk to the insurance company for the other driver.

Get the contact information of any witnesses to the accident.

Seek immediate medical attention if you are injured.

Locate and consult with an experienced Pennsylvania Personal Injury attorney as soon as possible after the accident.

SAFETY CORNER Xarelto Warning

Zofran Alert

The anti-coagulant drug, Xarelto, which is used to reduce the risk of blood clots and strokes, has been linked to excessive bleeding episodes causing hospitalization or death.

Xarelto has been heavily promoted on television and marketed as a superior drug because it is taken only once daily and requires no blood test monitoring. However, minor cuts or bumps can lead to dangerous bleeding events, and there is no antidote to reverse the anti-clotting effect of Xarelto. Beware of the dangers of this drug and potential legal claims after an excessive bleeding episode.

Zofran is a powerful anti-nausea medication used after surgery or chemotherapy. Although it was never approved by the FDA to treat nausea during pregnancy, starting in the 1990s its manufacturer heavily promoted Zofran for this off-label use. Studies have linked Zofran use to increased risk of serious birth defects including heart defects, cleft lip, cleft palate and club foot. Anyone who has had a child born with such a defect should have an attorney investigate a potential legal claim for compensation.

Dangerous Takata Air Bags

Takata has manufactured defective air bags that deploy explosively and injure or kill car occupants with shrapnel. Legal claims have finally forced Takata to recall its defective air bags.
