Why is this Important? What these examples show is that to make a sensible change to a given sound level, the over all sound level must be halved or doubled to be noticeable, therefore: To noticeably improve the sound insulation of a wall, it’s mass must be doubled. Also, to noticeably change the level of a noise source, it’s power must be halved, i.e. to noticeably reduce traffic noise, the number of vehicles need to be halved.
