A Light in the Storm This image was not created during lockdown but rather after it, and at an easel. It was my response to hearing a very personal story about the sudden loss of a father and husband. Isolated from each other by lockdown regulations, this family and others in a similar position, started marking their loved ones passing, by displaying a yellow heart in their windows. The simplicity of such a poignant gesture really moved me, I wanted in my own way to honour and remember every single person we lost; each one an individual with their own unique story, each one loved, a precious light within their own families, who would not and should not be forgotten by us all. A Light in the Storm will raise much needed funds for Cruse Bereavement Care. In recognition and acknowledgement of the very real losses so many people have endured. When I heard Eloises story about and the loss of her father and the symbolism behind the yellow hearts, it moved me; the visual image of people losing their loved ones and marking that loss with a yellow heart wouldn’t leave me and inspired me to create A Light in the Storm. I wanted in my own way to honour and remember every single person lost; every person a precious light within their own families who would not and should be forgotten by us all. As an artist all I can contribute is my artwork, so I really hope this image connects with people and that we manage to reach the target so this fantastic charity can go on to support those people who desperately need their help.
