About the Process
From this point a mold was made and using the ‘lost wax’ process the sculpture was cast in a foundry and
Mackenzie created this sculpture at his studio; using a
a patina applied.
wire armature he designed the sculpture using clay over a period of a couple of months.
This process involves heating the metal to high temperatures and applying a series of chemicals onto the surface which react to the heated metal and change the colour of the raw bronze, in line with the artist’s vision.
Small changes in temperature may affect the finished patina and so each piece will be truly individual and unique.
The figure, gradually developed and morphed until Mackenzie felt he was finished. He commented that the figure seemed to just grow out of the clay and say
‘here I am’.
Mackenzie was clear for this piece he wanted the heart to be a rich and deep warm red.
“The strength of this piece lies in its simplicity”,
I who have nothing, give you my Love.
