The Royal Touch

Read about UK2Learn’s Royal guest of honour

The Royal Touch The highlight for many students and staff in 2009 was the Royal seal of approval that we received at the start of the year. HRH Prince Michael of Kent was guest of honour at the UK2Learn Easter programme which was held at Prior’s Field School. It was an absolute honour for everyone that HRH Prince Michael of Kent accepted UK2Learn’s invitation. During his visit to Prior’s Field School he took great interest in the activities the students were participating in and the progress achieved. It was a highly rewarding day, and enormous recognition for everyone’s hard work. The staff, students and parents were of course thrilled that HRH Prince Michael of Kent was guest of honour; his support was very well received. In a thank you letter received by Suzie Mackie, director of UK2Learn from Kensington Palace, HRH “found the children a real source of inspiration.” The letter also went onto to say how Prince Michael was impressed with the students’ progress and how at ease they were after just a few days into the course. Certainly a Royal seal of approval for UK2Learn!

EASTER PROGRAMME

At UK2Learn the people who work behind the scenes also play a very important role. Our support team works hard to ensure the smooth running of the UK2Learn office and that our teachers have everything they need to run our classes throughout the programme. The quality of student life is why so many students choose UK2Learn. It is fun, challenging, exciting and provides students with the ability to thrive in a dynamic learning environment … and this is where our support team shine. Our support team organises a action packed social programme to ensure that students make the most of their visit to the UK. As they are always busy working away back at the office, keep your eyes peeled for them at any of our programme events which they regularly attend - any excuse for a party! Ellie Mills Ellie is our social programme organiser. She is one of the trio who has the enviable task of researching and developing our activities. Ellie grew up and went to school at Prior’s Field School in Surrey, which is the exclusive host of UK2Learn programmes in 2010. Having successfully completed her studies here she then went on to a local sixth form college. Continuing her academic flair, Ellie enrolled at the University of West England, Bristol, where she continues her studies today. Ellie has speech and drama qualifications (LAMDA) up to grade 5 and has performed in public speaking competitions across the South of England. Ellie has successfully worked with UK2Learn for over a year, not only running the sports and social programme, but also assisting our teachers in the classrooms. So this is one member of the support team that you may get to see more regularly!

FUN

ENGLISH STUDENTS

Kate Thompson Our second social programme organiser is Kate. She also began her studies in Surrey before moving onto the same University as Ellie, where she is studying English and Drama. She has qualifications from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and as a talented actress has performed with a local theatre group for many years, which she really enjoys. Kate has worked for UK2Learn for more than a year. During this time she has put her passion for the glitz of the stage into action by assisting with the teaching of the UK2Learn drama classes. In addition she also assists teachers in a range of other classes as well as of course running the sports and social programme. Alexander Mackie Last but not least is Alex, who completes our talented trio. If you think that Alex has a familiar face, you would be right! Alex is Suzie Mackie’s second son. He plays a key role in the company and has been a driving force in its success since UK2Learn’s establishment in 2006.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Alex began his education in Surrey and progressed onto a product design course at University. In addition to working for UK2Learn, Alex is also training as a plumber. Alex is highly involved in the day-today operations so you are sure to bump into him at one time or another!

School Zone The exclusive host of the UK2Learn 2010 Easter and Summer programmes is the wonderful Prior’s Field School in Godalming, Surrey.

Prior’s Field School Prior’s Field School is a boarding and day school for girls aged 11 – 18, but during the UK2Learn programmes male students are also permitted! The school has a rich history dating back to 1902. Today it covers an area of over 20 acres and includes a new state of the art science wing, opened in 2006, a modern sixth form house with en-suite facilities, a flexible performing arts area for both music and drama, refurbished dining room and kitchens, as well as first class ICT facilities. You will not be disappointed with Prior’s Field School as a venue - it is a wonderful setting for the UK2Learn programme.
