Tips on Staying Warm this Season! BY ERIC
SADHU
’Tis the season to be frozen! But you don’t have to be, and you wont be with these tips and guides to stay warm through Canada’s winter. Well, weather mix with Mother Nature’s activities at this point, but nonetheless, let’s get on! There are a lot of places to grab heavy coats, scarves, and gloves, a lot of which may come at the expense of your entire bank account. Canada Goose and TNA aren’t the only answers, people! You can grab an entire winter outfit, for a fraction of their prices, at everyday places like H&M. You’ll be able to grab a trench coat, gloves, scarves, and hats, altogether for less than $200.00! You can also stay warm and financially stable, in thanks to other stores like G by Guess, Hollister, and American Eagle. For those looking for a fresh pair of winter shoes, DSW, Nordstrom Rack, and Globo Shoes, amongst other stores, have quality items at a fraction of their otherwise retailed prices.
Clothing isn’t the only way to stay warm this winter, but also, quite literally, a universally loved subject: food! Simple things like hot chocolate are a great way to keep warm. Plus, you can spruce it up with your own hacks or twists, or just use mine. I add whipped cream and some crushed gingerbread cookies, to really bring the holidays home. Since it is getting colder to go out and get food, whenever you don’t feel like cooking, Uber Eats and Skip the Dishes also have amazing options. For all the foodies looking to try new seasonal drinks or dishes, Starbucks has released their new Juniper Latte, alongside their regular seasonal drinks. A personal recommendation from me is the Caramel Brûlée Latte, or their Peppermint Brownie Cake Pop. As well, Second Cup has their Candy Cane White Hot Chocolate, and their Gingersnap Latte. With these guides and tips, you are guaranteed to stay warm, cozy, and not too broke for the holidays, at least until you get your Christmas shopping done!

“Not cuffed during the most romantic holiday of the year?” By Relina D’Cruz All I want for Christmas is you – that’s the idea we have about Christmas. It’s the season of love and reciprocity. Everything you’d like to do; make a gingerbread house, go skiing, decorate the Christmas tree, bake Christmas cookies, go to the Christmas Market –you want to do it with the “one”. We have always paired Christmas with love, which makes us feel lonely during cuffing season. But we tend to forget that Christmas isn’t just about kissing the right person under the mistletoe. It’s about spending time with friends and family.Getting caught up in the search for a romantic partner can be destructive because we forget about ourselves while trying to find them. It’s true, the Christmas season can be lonely. I feel it too. But fuck that! There is so much going on, we can’t afford to be caught up in our romantic woes (or lack thereof). Enjoy being single while it lasts because before you know it, you’re spending all your time and effort trying to please your partner, accommodate their lifestyle, and their family. It’s pretty damn exhausting. Around this time of year, we suddenly forget how stressful relationships can be. For one, we tend to spend a ton of money on our partners – when we could be spending it on ourselves. It’s perfectly fine to be selfish. Say it loud and say it proud: I love me. There’s nothing wrong with that. Be kind to yourself. Spend the time you would have spent on an undeserving partner to take care of yourself. Take a long bubble bath, go to the gym, put on a face mask, buy yourself Christmas gifts (after all, nobody knows what you want better than you). You’re single. It’s not the end of the world. It can be a blessing. It gives us time to learn and understand ourselves. Focusing on the idea of “romance” during Christmas time may not always end well – it might end up making you feel worse. Instead, indulge in self-love and spend time with who love you and encourage you to be the best version of yourself. Surround yourself with people who support you on your journey of self-discovery. Look good, feel good. Christmas is about love, but there are so many kinds of love. You don’t have to focus on the romantic kind. Love yourself, love your family, love your friends – just do it unconditionally. They’ll be there for you through thick and thin. Show them you’re grateful, shower them with love.

What has become of Christmas? By Alyssa Offenheim This weekend, my boyfriend very adorably suggested that he and I make a visit to the Christmas Market at the Distillery District. He and I don’t usually spend the holidays together, being too busy with our families, so this idea was welcomed by me as a chance to make sweet memories to reflect on in years to come. And while it was definitely a very thoughtful and enjoyable date, with my boyfriend sliding his hand into mine constantly for warmth (because god forbid he ever wear a pair of gloves!), I have to sit back and reflect on what Christmas has become to our society. As we walked around the market, it was hard to ignore the beautiful lights illuminating the space, or the smell of baked goods in every alley way making my mouth water. The demonstration was fantastic, and it truly felt like you were walking through a winter wonderland. But it was also hard to ignore that left, right, and center, everyone and their mother was either making their way to the next photo-worthy area of the market, or standing in line to spend an obscene amount of money on a semi-warm pretzel. When this was said and done, it seemed like there was not much else to do but visit the surrounding stores and go shop. To me, this was a little sad. When my boyfriend and I left at last, I felt a little like we had been robbed, having spent $12 on two hot chocolates smaller than a Starbucks tall cup and knowing a lot more about hipster makeup brands than ever did before. We’d gone there to experience some fun Christmas activities to get us in the spirit of the holiday,
and we left 50$ broker with two pictures to show for it, less than 2 hours of walking around aimlessly, mouth watering for more pastries, and no real experiences to show for it. What happened to Christmas? Has it just become an opportunity to show off your cute relationship/family/dog? Has it become a time where people willingly let themselves be conned and cajoled by businesses into spending an obscene amount of money for presents and goodies? What does “getting into the holiday spirit” even mean? To me, the holidays are about tradition, laughter, and food. I was raised in a home where we celebrate a medley of culture and tradition that we call Christmakah, and to us, the holiday season has always been about spending time with family and eating until we can’t walk any more. Even more, it’s about seeing the smile on our grandmothers’ faces when we walk in all dressed up in our holiday best and they taste the cookies we laboured over making for days. It’s always been about appreciating what we have –culturally, physically, and emotionally – and making an excuse to come together and decorate the house and tease whoever dresses up as Santa. While I realize that not everyone is fortunate to have a boisterous, loving family as me, I feel like as a society, we need to guide ourselves back to the true meaning of the holiday season. We need to ensure that we’re making memories that last, because these memories and experiences mean more than knowing that somebody spent 3 days’ worth of pay on headphones to show their love, and will be what we reflect on and look forward to year in and out. My boyfriend and I likely won’t be visiting the Christmas Market again next year, and instead will probably opt for building gingerbread houses to the sound of Home Alone on the TV. I think for us, the little moments, no matter how cheesy or overdone they might be, will yield memories that endure…and ultimately, that’s what matters to us..

MAC SPORTS BY TONIA GENETE
Another month went by, and Christmas is rapidly approaching. Although Christmas is not here yet, we already have something to celebrate. In November Mac won their handball and basketball finals against Stong college. Congratulations Mac and keep it up! Our athletes of November are Angela and Jordy!
Our other athlete of the month is Jordy who is a second year Criminology student. He used to play soccer when he was a kid before switching to basketball in grade 7, now he mostly plays everything. Jordy’s favourite sports to play are basketball and volleyball. He never played in an AAU or rep league but played for the high school basketball, volleyball, soccer, and Frisbee team. Jordy got interested in playing sports because soccer was the only sport he could play when he was young. Sports are something that relaxes him, and it’s a way for him to meet new people. As of right now, Jordy does not have any real plans regarding varsity.

Angela is a third year Law and Society student. She coaches sports, is currently learning Japanese and can continuously pop her shoulder in and out. Angela's favourite games to play are soccer, volleyball, rugby, and basketball. Her passion for sports first began in elementary school when she was told that girls shouldn't be playing games. She mainly used it to prove a point to men. When hockey didn't work out, Angela started playing soccer competitively when she was 11. Currently, Angela plays soccer, volleyball, and dodge ball for MAC and she will be doing basketball as well this winter. Some of her future goals that are related to sports involve her continuing to coach teens and also opening sports camps for communities where it's too expensive to afford it. Finally, she shared a funny story involving sports. She was already 5 minutes late to the game and was also the team captain, which meant that she needed to be there for the coin toss. Angela had also forgotten that she left her shin pads in the locker room, so she ran back upstairs to go get them and fell down 2 flights of stairs in her cleats on her way back to the field. Everyone saw and laughed. Angela played the entire game and was good, but after the game when she took off her cleats, she couldn't feel her right foot it was super numb, purple and swollen. It turned out that she sprained her ankle when she fell down the stairs, and she needed medical attention right away. They had another game the next day, and Angela didn't want to sit out, so she told her coach that it was all clear but was on a lot of painkillers. When Angela played the

HOW TO HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO BY: SARAN DHINDSA After months of strikes, studying, LSATs, applications and exams you’ve finally reached December; the Lord’s month. For those of you that don’t celebrate Christmas: 1) Check your privilege and 2) who gives a flying fork if you do or don’t. Just shut up and eat some goddamn food because you deserve it. To help you on this journey, I’ve provided some recipes that will allow you to have your cake and eat several portions of it too. Vegan Hot Chocolate (4 servings): Ingredients 1 cup dark chocolate chips 2 tbsp maple syrup ½ tsp vanilla extract 1 pinch of salt 2 ½ cups of almond milk (or any other dairy-free beverage) 1 cup sweet potato puree (sounds weird, but trust me) Directions: Add everything to a pot over medium-low heat. Whisk the ingredients until they’ve combined and stir it occasionally. Once the mixture has come together and is heated to your desired temperature, remove it from the heat. Feel free to add toppings.
A Gingerbread Doughnuts (12 servings) - Doughnuts 1 cup flour (you can use gluten-free flour if you wish) 1 cup ground almonds 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon ½ tsp ginger ¼ tsp cloves ¼ tsp nutmeg 4 tbsp brown or coconut sugar 4 tbsp milk (dairy free or regular) 4 tsbp honey or maple syrup 4 tbsp melted coconut oil 4 tbsp almond butter 2 tbsp ground flaxseed mixed with 6 tbsp of hot water and leave this to sit for 15 minutes - Frosting 1 can of refrigerated coconut milk (only using the solid part) 2-3 tbsp of maple syrup ¼ cinnamon Directions: Mix everything except the liquids. Pour in the milk, coconut oil, maple syrup, almond butter and set flaxseed mixture and mix well. Grease a silicone doughnut tin and divide mixture between them. Bake at 350° for 25 minutes and cool before removing from the mould. For the frosting, scoop out the solid part of the can of coconut milk and add to a large bowl. Whip with a hand mixer until light and fluffy. Add maple syrup and cinnamon and mix for a minute or so. Dip each doughnut in the frosting so you have a thick layer on top of each doughnut. Sprinkle with cinnamon or crushed gingerbread.

December Horoscope Aries: You have been made some big promises, but so far, Aries, they have not come through for you. You keep believing because you want to believe, but this month there must be a reckoning about what is really going on. You could begin the month still feeling hopeful about this, but as reality seeps in, you will know that you need to get a real answer and not keep giving in to wishful thinking. A conflict you have endured with a family member or a close friend could reach a boiling point, perhaps in the second week of December. You could lash out with every unkind comment about this person that has ever occurred to you because of your hurt state of mind, which would make things worse. Or, you could remain calm and cool, and find a way to get back on the same page. This was at one point, after all, a good relationship that offered many benefits. Taurus: Many of your thoughts and efforts this month may revolve around money, Taurus. There could be a financial mismanagement issue - this could either be issues you have to deal with connected to mistakes, or there could be some issue related to someone else's management of your finances. Either way, you can resolve this issue successfully if you pay attention to the fine print and other details. Someone who owes you a favour - or something that might be better described as an obligation - could come up a lot in your thoughts this month. This person may have never come through on their word, but you might feel timid about demanding it. This month you can summon the courage to face this person directly and recover what is owed to you. Gemini: This month could offer you a great tone and environment to build up your confidence and finally focus on some goal you have put off for a long time. This may be because you should receive a lot of extra attention - not just from those you already know, but also from people who gravitate to you for your talents, your skills, and your innate ability to do something unlike anyone else. Your selfesteem should rise, and it could finally point you in the right direction to make a dream come true. December could also be a great month for growing closer to someone in your life that you have drifted away from. You probably have a strong idea of who this could be, as this may have been on your mind for some time. It isn't that you are estranged; it's more like time and circumstances have caused you to drift apart, but with a bit of determination, you can begin to connect again regularly and get back on track. This would be good for both of you.
PAGE 12 |Â
Cancer: You are by nature a hard-working person, and with your stamina and your tenacity, you rarely, if ever, give up on anything. This means that you tend to blindly work yourself into the ground whenever you deem it necessary, barely noticing how fatigued you are. This month, that realization may come to you. You have worked so hard for so long that you might just suddenly notice your energy flagging, and that means you need to listen to those cues, Moonchild. This will be an excellent month to begin a routine of taking better care of yourself. You need to make sure you have a healthy diet, sufficient exercise to remain strong and agile, and of course plenty of rest. This month may also bring a disappointment or betrayal connected to someone you care about. This, coming from a sibling or someone who is close to you on that kind of level can be very trying. But try to be understanding because there may be more to it than meets the eye. Leo: This may be a month that will be significant for your ability to turn lemons into lemonade. Don't get nervous about that, Leo, because this will turn out just fine. Yes, you may face a few challenges in December, but it won't be anything you can't handle. And what's more, those challenges are certainly blessings in disguise if you handle them right and maintain the right attitude. Each of these "problems" is an opportunity that can lead you to something absolutely wonderful and desirable. This month could also give you the chance to reconnect with a family member you have not seen in quite some time - perhaps a distant cousin you have not spoken to since childhood, or a favourite uncle who moved to a distant town and who has fallen out of touch. You might even find yourself talking about a family reunion.
Virgo: Your motto may be "if you want something done right, do it yourself" but you may have to be a bit less independent this month to get everything done that is possible in the timeframe you need to adhere to. And if you are selective in who you delegate to, who you include in your inner circle, and who you seek help from, you should find that you will be quite happy with bringing others into your world to help out, and they will get much good out of it as well. December could also be significant for you where relationships are concerned. There is a change in a long-standing relationship brewing. This change can finally lead to a development, but in the end, it should turn out to be quite positive for you, even if there are initially some adjustments needed.
PAGE 13 |Â
Libra: December may find you in a dreary or dull mood, Libra, but that may be a reflection of your state of mind rather than the actual circumstances of your life. Your biggest power here will be in recognizing and acknowledging that you have power over this, and you can take your life in any direction you wish. The chance to begin a new adventure could come to you quite early in the month, though you may be apprehensive and tentative because of the mood you are in. You need to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and decide to be positive and dedicated to changing whatever it is you need to change in your life to be happier. That chance will most definitely be there if you seek it out. Also, be sure to reach for what you want, not just what you think will be the low-hanging fruit. The month should end on a high note with a reunion involving someone you have been hoping to see. Scorpio:Â Some talent or skill you are especially good at could play a big role in December. You may have been longing to turn this talent or skill into a lucrative, moneymaking opportunity or career, and you may gain more insight into this in the weeks ahead. Keep in mind, though, that it may not be all fun; you will have to also refine and perfect the more practical side of it as well. This is something you may have a knack for, but it won't happen overnight. Take some time this month to study and analyze what making a success of this will require. A random exchange with a stranger in some ordinary place, such as the supermarket or the dry cleaner, could bring an answer you have been searching for in your personal life, as long as you are tuned in to that possibility and open to whatever you might learn.
Sagittarius You may start out this month with negative feelings about an upcoming event. Whether this is a holiday gathering, a work seminar, a community commitment, or anything else, you may have some preconceived but negative idea of how it will go. But if you take that nervous tension and energy and channel it in a positive direction, what you fear will have the opposite effect. This is your chance, Sagittarius, to turn around the fear and make it a hopeful possibility. Work on that. You may have the chance this month to become involved in a partnership or an organization of some kind. Before you make that leap, though, you need to explore it fully, as you may not have a complete idea of what your role would entail, and it may be more complex and multi-layered than you realize. If you need to know more than you can see on the surface, it might be wise to consult with someone who has also had the role you are contemplating.
PAGE 14 |Â
Capricorn: You may have been working hard over the last few weeks to hide your feelings from someone. You don't let your emotions get out of hand because you don't want to show how deeply something has affected you, Capricorn. Even so, you have worn your feelings on your face, and those who know you best probably recognize that something has been on your mind. This month, it would be good for you to find someone you can confide in, or to at least find some way to release your emotions. You may find that once they are no longer bottled up inside, you will feel a great sense of freedom and a more carefree level of happiness. A disappointment later in the month could involve a job, a contract, or some sort of a project that you had high hopes for. But don't despair over this, for something better will soon come along to take its place.
Aquarius: You may find yourself in a rather extravagant mood where spending money is concerned this month, Aquarius. It isn't because something has changed for you financially. More likely, this has to do with your state of mind and retail therapy. You have been, perhaps, longing for some luxury or something that you don't really need but you think will make you feel better about something - perhaps about a recent disappointment. A conflict with someone at work or in some sort of formal arrangement could surface around the middle of the month. This is something that may have been brewing for some time, but it could come into the open after someone makes a mistake or says something out of turn. Be very careful not to say everything you are thinking, or you could reveal something you will immediately wish you had kept private
Pisces: You may have made what you see as an important decision recently that may be impacting someone else in a negative way, Pisces. This may involve a feeling of betrayal, and it is definitely something you need to think about. You need to weigh the message you are conveying to someone you care about with this choice, and compare it to the need you have. If you think about it carefully, you should come to the best decision. This month a rivalry between two people you are close to could go on ad nauseam. Despite your reluctance to get involved, one of the parties may try to goad you into it with the idea that you can help to resolve it, but be careful about that. This is probably something they have to work out privately on their own. If you do choose to get involved anyway, or you give in to the pressure, it could be a bigger burden than you realize.
