Teacher’s Notes Different lives – Level 1, Module 5 Aim In this lesson, students read about the life of an Amish girl. The Amish community lives apart from other people, in various parts of the USA. They are a religious group, some of whom do not allow technology such as electricity and telephones in the home. They work on the land and most educate their children away from non-Amish children. 1 Reading • Ask the students to look quickly at the text and to guess where it comes from. • Ask a few students to share their ideas with the class and give reasons for their answer. Answer a 2 Comprehension • Ask the students to find the mistake in each sentence and rewrite them correctly. • Ask the students to compare answers in pairs. • Ask different students to write their sentences on the board. Accept any factually and grammatically correct wording. Answers 1 Amish people’s lives are different from other people’s lives. 2 Amish children go to school with other Amish children. 3 Amish children speak Pennsylvania Dutch at home. 4 All Amish girls learn to clean and cook. 5 Rebecca’s parents don’t have a car. They have a horse and cart. 6 Amish children go to bed early.
