Check if they use the appropriate tenses when answering the questions. After the students have finished, do a mini survey of the class. Ask the people whose best friends are very similar to them to raise their hands and count them. Then do the same for people whose friends are different from them. You may consider asking the students to give reasons for the result (no matter what these are). Task 1 – Poziom podstawowy

Nick: Oh, hi, Sam. Sam: Hey, Nick, have you got any plans for the evening? Nick: Why are you asking? Sam: Well, Manchester’s playing Liverpool tonight. I thought we could watch it at my place. Nick: Sorry, I promised Susan I’d help her with Geography. Sam: You’re joking, right? You can’t miss this match – it’s the most important one in the season. Nick: I’ve already made my promise and I want to keep it. Sam: What is it with you and Susan? Is she your girlfriend, or what? Nick: No, she’s my best friend. Sam: That’s impossible - boys and girls cannot be best friends. Or maybe they can if they are cousins. But if they aren’t, there is always something more going on. Nick: Come on, Sam. The fact that YOU cannot make friends with girls does not mean it is impossible. Sam: Oh, just admit it. You like her a lot. Nick: Yeah, I do. She reads the same books and listens to similar music as I do and I really enjoy talking to her. But that’s it. Sam: You can say whatever you want, but you still prefer spending the evening with her than watching the football with me. It’s just unfair. Nick: I’m sorry, Sam. Maybe next time.
