Teacher’s Notes First to top – Level 1, Module 3 Level and module: Hot Spot 1, Module 3 Target language: The time and school subjects Activity time: 10–15 minutes Organization: Pairwork. Type of activity:Board game Preparation: Print one copy of the activity for each pair of pupils in your class. Cut the pages along the dotted lines to separate the board from the answers. Each pair will also need two counters (coins will do).

Instructions: 1 Divide your class into pairs and give each pupil a copy of either the Player 1 or Player 2 board. Also give each pupil a copy of the answer key (Player 1 should have Player 2’s answers, and Player 2 should have Player 1’s answers: they should not show these to each other) Give each pair two counters.

2 Tell your students to place their counter on Start at the bottom of the board. Explain that they are going to race each other to see who can be the first to reach the top of their board. They will do this as follows: • Both players move their counter to the first space on their board at the same time. The letters in bold have to be unscrambled, and the times written in words. The first one has been done as an example. • The students check each other’s answers using the answer sheets. • If their answer is correct, they move up to the next space and do the next sentence. If their answer is wrong, they don’t move up and have to do the sentence again. • The first player in the pair to reach Finish is the winner. Answers: The answers are on the activity sheets (Player 1 has Players 2’s answers, and vice versa).
