Chairperson’s Statement When I founded Grameen Intel with former Intel CEO Craig Barrett, we had a vision to avail the power of technology to advance the cause of people at the lower income levels. We wanted to tackle the digital divide so that the underprivileged community is enabled with the technology to pursue new income-generating resources. Today, I am proud to see the way Grameen Intel, as the world’s first IT social business, is designing easy and affordable technology-based solutions.
Muhammad Yunus
Founder of Grameen Bank, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
Our work areas are inspired to meet the SDG goals and are fundamental to developing nations to achieve growth. Our operation has grown from delivering smart agricultural, health and learning solutions in one country, Bangladesh to six countries now. This has been possible as our team members have displayed an innovative drive to develop easy and timely technical solutions for social concerns. We have developed two very relevant and progressive solutions- Coel and Soil Master to ensure the maternal well being and advanced agricultural practices which were recognized across nations. This report reflects its potential to draw amazing impact in the agriculture and health sector. Thank you Intel, for your ongoing commitment and belief in our dream and also work with us at social business field and to build innovative, affordable and sustainable solutions in a collaborative manner to uplift the people living at the bottom-most.

CEO’s Statement We continue to develop our technology through our work in some of the most impoverished parts of the world. The ground level realities shape how we design our products for a population that currently does not benefit from information technology. In 2017 we introduced a maternal wellness smart bangle (Coel). It took us close to two years to design and fine tune the manufacturing processes. This involved not only identifying a contract manufacturer but also optimizing the design around the waterproof, audio quality and battery life. To date we have manufactured over 3,000 units for our first customer, Worldvision.
Kazi I. Huque
On Secondment from Intel
Our eAgro suite now has footprint in 6 countries and 100 locations. In addition to our software we are also introducing a new device called Soil Master that integrates the software and computer functionality, along with the ability to store and analyze data on the cloud. The integrated device is intended for organizations who want to provide instant soil testing services at the field level to assist farmers optimize the use of fertilizers and maximize yields. In 2017 our focus has been on completing the functional design and manufactured the first few prototypes. More recently the Grameen Intel team won the Tech4Farmers Challenge. The program is a collaboration between FEED The Future (the US Government’s food security initiative) and Winrock International, a recognized leader in international development with a key focus on transforming the lives of farmers through new technology and innovation. Financially we closed the year with a net income (loss) of (BDT 41,450,631) or (US$ 518,000). In 2018 our highest priority is making progress toward our financial sustainability by increasing our cost recovery through increased product adoption and technical services.

CTO’s Statement As another productive year drew to a close, I wanted to reflect on the progress we have made on the technology, products and deployment as a social business focused on driving impact. We have continued to deploy our krishē eAgro software broadly with close to 800+ licenses in 6 countries impacting close to 34000 farmers. An important addition to the krishē eAgro bundle was the backend content management system (CMS) portal that can now analyze and visualize the data from the deployments for our customers. We also completed the prototyping of Soil Master, a one stop solution for digital soil testing and recommendation in collaboration with Intel’s Internet of Things Group that greatly simplifies the process of soil testing as well as reduces the time taken to generate a recommendation. I am very proud that the Soil Master won the Tech4Farmers Asia Challenge 2.0 Award! We also did field trials with Soil Master with Solidaridad in Bangladesh with good feedback and solid interest from them to scale next year.
Narayan Sundararajan On secondment from Intel
Coel, our maternal wellness bangle has been extremely well received in field trials with partners in India and Bangladesh and has been covered by the press extensively. We are currently manufacturing Coel working with contract manufacturers in China. It is a proud moment for Grameen Intel to be manufacturing an impactful wearable device that can provide the right information at the right time for millions of pregnant women across the world. We will be deploying Coel at scale in Bangladesh working with World Vision Bangladesh, USAID and RRF starting with 1000 bangles next quarter with a goal of reaching tens of thousands over the next 3 years. In India, we are in talks to partner with Nexleaf Analytics and Tata Trusts to deploy Coel early 2018. We are also exploring additional functionalities to Coel and are in discussions with the Gates Foundation to work together on the next version of Coel. This year marked an important transition for our company where we morphed from being a pure software company to handling complete hardware solutions such as Coel and Soil Master. I am proud of the technical team for their willingness to learn quickly and deliver on the goals with unwavering enthusiasm and drive. We look to continue developing innovative solutions that leverages Intel’s hardware expertise along with software developed by the Grameen Intel company to address social issues and have massive global impact.
