IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY AND WE WANT TO HAVE THE GREATEST PARTY EVER! 2011 marks an exciting year for macrobert as we celebrate our 40th birthday. It was 1971 when macrobert, Scotland’s first purpose-built arts centre, opened the doors with a jam-packed season. Over the past 40 years there have been many changes including a redevelopment of the centre’s facilities between 2000 and 2002. What has remained constant throughout that period is our commitment to programming only the best entertainment for all ages, supporting artists to create exciting new work and ensuring that as many people as possible from the local community have access to quality arts experiences. So we think that there is much to celebrate and we want to involve you in our party. In the good old Scottish tradition of a party, do you fancy “Daen yer turn”? Would you like to share your party piece inspired by a macrobert memory with us? macrobert is turning 40! And on Saturday 17 September we are planning to have a BIG party with our building full of celebratory events, activities and performances. First of all we would love you to come to our party. Or even better, we would like you to get involved! Throughout the day we want to create opportunities for those who have been connected with macrobert over the past 40 years to share with us their macrobert memories. Maybe you have performed in one of macrobert’s venues before and would like to reprise the moment? Or you have a fantastic story to tell about a time you worked at macrobert? Or you want to tell us about an amazing performance or something funny that happened? You might be an artist who creates performances all the time and would like to draw together some stories or memories into a performance or event for people who attend the party to participate in? Everything is possible. Be fearless, be unique! We are open to all offers! This is your party, so tell us how you want to participate in it. There are no rules, you just have to have something you would like to share about macrobert’s 40 year history. The macrobert Archive
Alongside the party we are working with Karl Magee, University of Stirling Archivist, to create The macrobert Archive. We would like to hear from you if you have old programmes, pictures, posters, scripts etc., anything that relates to macrobert. We will happily accept donated items, you can loan them to us temporarily for this year or we can arrange to have them copied digitally. All items will be held securely in the University of Stirling Archive.
