Introduction from Fiona, Executive Director Welcome to the newest edition of our film brochure. This issue is especially exciting as it details the films chosen by the Young Film Programmers as part of our summer festival mFEST. This festival, aimed at and created by 12-17 year olds, is the first of its kind in Scotland. Not only does it feature a great selection of films - including very special screenings of Pan’s Labyrinth and Little Miss Sunshine on an outdoor screen - but a variety of music, drama, dance and physical theatre including such high profile acts as Tinchy Stryder, La Fura Dels Baus and Daniel Sloss, to name but a few. You can find the full line-up at www.m-fest.org. We’ll also be screening the brand new summer blockbuster Shrek Forever After, and watch out for the greatly anticipated Toy Story 3. There’s plenty for all the family here at macrobert this summer, so we look forward to seeing you very soon!

Baby Pictures - You CAN still go to the cinema! Now you can bring your baby along and enjoy the latest releases on the big screen without worrying about bothering other members of the audience. The lights are turned up a bit and the sound is turned down, mats are out and there is space for buggies; creating a baby-friendly atmosphere. Membership is free and open to any baby under 12 months old - sign up before the film.

Special Events First Light Premiere Since 2001, First Light have enabled over 30,000 budding young filmmakers to write, act, shoot, light, direct and produce over 1000 films and media projects. We are delighted to show six exclusive short films as part of mFEST: all produced by young people engaged with the project. Six groups of young people based in different Forth Valley locations have been working with film makers D fie foe to produce some ambitious and creatively challenging moving image work as part of the mPOWER project. Their work will be screened at a special premiere at macrobert and at mFEST's mini-cine during mFEST at macrobert. The work also forms an integral part of the twilight multi media performance piece RED every evening of the Festival.

Special Events - Woody Allen A mix of old and new - but all classic Woody Allen - in this macrobert retrospective of some of the director’s highly acclaimed works.
Hannah and Her Sisters (15) Woody Allen, USA 1986, 103 mins Hannah (Mia Farrow) has put her acting career on hold to spend time with her family and husband Elliot (Michael Caine). Elliot has fallen in love with Hannah's sister Lee who is feeling suffocated by her mean-spirited lover (Max von Sydow). Meanwhile, third sister Holly (Dianne West) is trying to get her own acting career going. In the middle of everything is Mickey (Woody Allan), a TV writer who is divorced from Hannah, has dated Holly, and, when he suspects he might have a brain tumour, decides to re-evaluate his life.

Unhappy in his career as a variety show comedy writer and newly divorced from a woman who has since come out as a lesbian, Isaac bounces between two relationships: that with the young Tracy (Mariel Hemingway) and with pseudo-intellectual Mary (Diane Keaton). One of Woody Allen's early classics, Manhattan combines modern, bittersweet humour and timeless romanticism with unerring grace.

Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (18) Werner Herzog, USA 2009, 122 mins Nicholas Cage plays a rogue detective who is as devoted to his job as he is at scoring drugs - while playing fast and loose with the law, wielding his badge as often as he wields his gun in order to get his way. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina he becomes a high-functioning addict who is a deeply intuitive, fearless detective reigning over the beautiful ruins of New Orleans with authority and abandon.

The Happiest Girl In The World (15) Radu Jude, Netherlands/Romania/France/Japan 2009, 103 mins Romanian with English subtitles 18 year-old Delia (Andreea Bosneag) is anything but happy. Winning a smart new car in a contest seems like a stroke of good luck for the teen; there's even the chance to appear in a TV commercial in Bucharest. So the whole family makes their way to the capital, but once there, the provincial Delia is forced to deal with the snobby pseudo-sophisticates executing the commercial while at the same time realizing that her parents have their own ideas about what to do with her car - sell it and pocket the cash.

The Milk Of Sorrow (12A) Claudia Llosa, Spain/Peru 2009, 95 mins Contains references to rape Spanish/Quechua with English subtitles The daughter of a Peruvian woman abused and raped during the years of terrorist struggle learns to confront her fears when her mother suddenly dies.
