Introduction from Liz, Artistic Director Welcome to March and April films at macrobert and what a season we have! The macrobert cinema was renamed the Norman McLaren filmhouse last year after Stirling’s own Oscar-winning artist. We are pleased to be able to bring back the world acclaimed show NORMAN, and to celebrate this we are screening some of McLaren’s wonderful short films all of which were ground breaking and awe-inspiring. Fans of DIRTY DANCING get the opportunity not only to see the film but also a chance to learn all the moves yourself in our dance workshop. We have several films on offer that are sure to have done well at the Oscars with the innovative AVATAR and the thrilling HURT LOCKER. macrobert favourite Mr Johnny Depp returns in what is guaranteed to be a very different magical fantasy directed by Tim Burton - ALICE IN WONDERLAND. Finally after 18 years I leave macrobert at the end of February and would like to thank you, our fantastic audience for your support of macrobert. A new Artistic Director will shortly be appointed to take macrobert into a very exciting and successful stage in its development.

Baby Pictures - You CAN still go to the cinema! BABY PICTURES IS MOVING! Come along and visit on our new Wednesday morning time slot. You may have noticed, sometimes our distributors just couldn’t get these films along in time for a Friday morning, so to ensure your viewing is uninterrupted, we’ve moved days. Please do let us know what you think about this and any aspect of Baby Pictures - we are here to listen! Just drop us a line on marketing@macrobert.org or call 01786 467155 if you have any feedback for us! Now you can bring your baby along and enjoy the latest releases on the big screen without worrying about bothering other members of the audience. The lights are turned up a bit and the sound is turned down, mats are out and there is space for buggies; creating a baby-friendly atmosphere. Membership is free and open to any baby under 12 months old - sign up before the film.

The show introduces McLaren’s life and work, we meet his friends and colleagues, dance through his playful animated landscapes and enter his imaginary worlds all in the company of the extraordinary performer, Peter Trosztmer.

A high school French teacher gives her class a translation exercise based on a real news story, about a terrorist who plants a bomb in the airline luggage of his pregnant girlfriend. Encouraged by Sabine, Simon takes his story online and is soon defending his position in internet chatrooms, while using the fictitious tale to explore the truth about his parents' death.

We Live In Public reveals the effect the web is having on our society, as seen through the eyes of artist Josh Harris. Harris curated and funded the ground breaking project “Quiet” in an underground bunker in New York, where over 100 people lived together on camera for 30 days. Through his experiments, including a six-month stint living with his girlfriend under 24-hour electronic surveillance which led to his mental collapse, Harris demonstrates the price we pay for living in public.

Bill Nighy heads up the cast in this light-hearted rock rom-com as Quentin, station manager of the anarchic Radio Rock - a pirate radio station situated somewhere in the North Sea.
