WELCOME FROM JOHNNY Let’s start at the very beginning… it’s a very good place to start after all. One of my earliest memories is hysterically screaming with terror at the local cinema - I was watching Snow White, so how could I resist revisiting the story for this year’s pantomime? It is my great privilege to be wearing many hats - as writer, director and performer – for my sixth Christmas show at macrobert. Every year we try to make the show bigger, better, funnier and even more absurd than the year before. I’d like to think that we’ve managed that yet again, but then I am slightly biased! I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve managed to assemble a top-notch cast of Scotland’s finest acting and production talent. They bring to rehearsals every day a sense of enthusiasm, dedication and downright silliness which can only transfer to you, the audience, to create a show that we hope you’ll enjoy as much as we enjoy performing it for you. Tonight you will also see the future of Scottish theatre in the form of our tremendously talented Young Company. These talented performers, ranging from ten to sixteen years, work tirelessly and give 200% to every rehearsal. Their youthful exuberance and confidence is infectious to everyone and reminds us all exactly why an arts experience is so important in today’s society. It is my great delight to be part of your Christmas yet again at macrobert. I hope you enjoy the show. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Johnny McKnight Writer and Director

WELCOME FROM LIAM I am absolutely delighted to welcome you to macrobert this festive season, my first as Artistic Director. No venue in Scotland does Christmas quite like macrobert; with three shows for all ages programmed alongside a jam-packed selection of films. Snow White of the Seven De'Wharffs and Mr Snow, our own productions, as well as Catherine Wheel's White, showcase the best of Scottish theatre talent and fulfill our commitment to being at the centre of providing quality family friendly arts experiences. Our Young Company in the panto demonstrates the quality participation work we deliver with young people throughout the year, and we are all extremely proud of their talent and commitment. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the artists, technicians and macrobert staff that make staging our Christmas productions possible. And finally a huge thanks to you, our loyal audience, for all your support. You most definitely deserve a party and I reckon Snow White is just the ticket! Enjoy the show and my best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the best, Liam Sinclair Artistic Director and Chief Executive

The Story of Snow White We would like to thank the pupils of Clackmannan Primary school for kindly sending us their own versions of Snow White, including stories, poems and lovely pictures, which we have displayed at macrobert. We have picked one very good story by Zoe Adamson, who is in Primary 5. Once upon a time, long, long ago, there was a girl that had skin as white as snow. Her name was Snow White for that reason and she was born in the winter season. One day her evil stepmother said: ‘My dear Snow White, you’ll soon be dead’. She walked over to the other side of the room where a silver mirror hung with a gloom. ‘Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?’ said Snow White’s stepmother with a smile so clean. ‘Well’, said the mirror, ‘Snow White is the fairest I’ve seen’. The next morning Snow White was sent into the forest to find fruit and flowers that had to be good. Meanwhile the queen sent her servant to kill Snow White. She said: ‘Bring her heart back to me by teatime tonight’. Snow White was tired and needed some sleep, but to her luck she found a cottage in the forest so deep. She fell asleep in a tiny bed upstairs and she drifted off without any cares. Soon seven dwarfs came back singing ‘High Hoe’ and each with a sack. When Snow White awoke she was told to not open the door to nobody - young or old. The seven dwarfs set off into the woods to do their own work, which was to hunt for food. Meanwhile the queen's servant arrived with the heart, but it was a sheep’s, not Snow White’s that was in the cart. For he was too kind, and even killing a sheep filled him with fright! The queen poured poison into her cauldron with a smile. She said: ‘Maybe the wait was worth the while’. The servants face started to turn red. ‘Have you got something to tell me?’ the queen anxiously said. ‘The heart belongs to a sheep’, he replied. The queen looked at him unsatisfied. ‘Don’t worry too much’, she said. ‘I have a plan. Fetch me a rosy red apple, OK young man?’ ‘Yes’, said the servant. Then he ran of. This evil woman said: ‘This apple will be the best thing she’ll ever scoff.’ Her servant returned with an apple so red. He gave it to the queen, who cried: ‘Off to bed’. She popped the apple into the stew. She then stirred it and let it brew. She took the apple and dressed up as an old hag. The apple was safe inside her bag. She knocked at the door of the seven dwarfs’ house. Breaking the rule, Snow White opened the door as quiet as a mouse. Snow White didn’t want the apple, but the queen made her take a bite. Snow White fell to the ground to her stepmother’s delight. The queen went back home because the dwarfs were back, all still singing ‘High Hoe’ and each with a sack. They made a pretty glass coffin for Snow White. Suddenly, a prince appeared on a horse with a smile so bright. He kissed Snow White and she was alive again. Thank yous were said to the prince there and then. The prince, the dwarfs and Snow White shared some laughs and they lived happily ever after.
