DEMOCRACY by Michael Frayn

Fri 2 (preview) & Sat 3 Sept, 7.30pm Rapture Theatre is back at Macrobert Arts Centre with a new production of this witty, thought-provoking and award-winning play! West Germany, 1969. Charismatic Willy Brandt has been elected Chancellor. When Brandt ‘dares more democracy’, his own party conspires, plots and tries to destroy him. As his enemies tighten the noose around his neck, Brandt believes the only man he can truly trust is Gunter Guillaume, his devoted personal assistant. But in the world of political intrigue, espionage and betrayal, is anyone to be trusted? An unmissable night at the theatre that combines the fascination of a John Le Carre thriller and the energy and dynamism of House of Cards.

Tue 4 Oct, 7.30pm

A story of courage, sisterhood and pride, this play follows six women living through the massive Italian migration that took place between 1850 and 1950. Using prose, poetry and music from Scottish and Italian traditions the experiences of both nationalities are brought to life with stories of women divided, yet united, in a battle for identity and belonging. Based on hundreds of interviews collected over thirty years, the play is deeply relevant to current debates around immigration, exploring themes of acceptance and rejection, confrontation and collaboration.

INVISIBLE ARMY

Recommended for ages 12+

Three years ago Robbie McGuire started becoming invisible. It's not a big problem. It doesn't affect his daily life. Mrs Gillespie still gives him detention and Sarah Hargreaves still threatens to smash his face in. But people bump into him a lot in the street. Nobody ever really looks at him - they always look to the side or slightly behind. And this morning, the longer he looked in the mirror the less he could see of himself. Created as a documentation of the experiences and imaginations of a group of young carers, Invisible Army follows Robbie through a very weird day.

‘Pit the kettle oan mither, this is braw news!’ Scotland's most famous fictional family The Broons are coming to Macrobert Arts Centre! The Glebe Street bunch has featured in the classic DC Thomson comic strips in the Sunday Post since 1936 and this production celebrates them on their 80th anniversary! Award winning Scottish playwright Rob Drummond brings the infamous characters Granpaw, Paw and Maw Broon, Hen and Joe, Daphne, Maggie, Horace, The Twins and The Bairn to life in a production filled with laughs, love and comic-strip visuals, all set to a Scottish soundtrack. The marvellous artwork and well observed storylines of The Broons means that everyone recognises a little of themselves in these classic tales.
