We are really excited by what we have on offer right up to the end of the year and we can’t wait to share it with you. Our Conversation this season explores ‘How do we become who we are?’ and ‘What is a family?’ inspired by Jackie Kay’s Red Dust Road, Scottish Book of the Year 2011. Jackie graduated from the University of Stirling in 1983 and went on to become one of Scotland’s greatest writers. Macrobert supported the National Theatre of Scotland in the adaptation of this award winning book for the stage and we are delighted that this soul-searching memoir by Scotland's Makar will open this season. You can turn to pages 4 and 5 for details of our other Conversation events and that is only the start of what’s on offer. You’ll find lots to see and do in this guide and if you would like to hear more about it all then please come and join me and some special guest artists at our Season Spotlight (more info below). We look forward to sharing it with you!

Their relationship doesn’t have a name, but they’re definitely (although unofficially) family. Ella was best friends with Kathryn’s Nana for decades, and they’ve been writing, sharing holidays, swapping books and trading stories for as long as Kathryn can remember.

KIM SIMPSON: GIRLS AND THEIR MOTHERS Fri 23 Aug to Thu 19 Sep This Exhibition looks at the complex identity of multiracial individuals, a visually underrepresented group in Scotland. Instead of questioning their ancestry or scrutinizing their appearance, Kim chose to photograph girls and women of mixed heritage and their mothers with an intent on questioning social perception. The images display their relationships, linking these girls and their mothers together, while also respecting their disparity. We are delighted to present this exhibition as part of Stirling Photography Festival.

An intensely moving dance piece about dying while embracing the art of living and the passage of time. How do we choose to live in the face of the inevitable and how do we think about the final stage of our life cycle? Increasingly, as medicine advances, knowledge of imminent death has become a reality for everyone; The Chosen addresses our mortality from the shifting perspectives of ourselves and our loved ones in a deeply personal reflection on how we experience the time we have left.
