Although still a new feature, art exhibitions and installations at airports are becoming increasingly common. Some major cities have integrated cultural arts events into such spaces. Castellon Airport is small but intends to participate in these cultural initiatives with an expanding project, currently in the early stages. Initially, places in and outside the terminal will be used to showcase works of art. As a first step, an art gallery has been created (Sala 30) and in parallel, an exhibition of sculpture has been installed at the main access to the terminal. In the future, outside areas will feature ceramic creations, sculpture and in general all types of artworks linked to three-dimensionality or interventions in the space, including ephemeral works. The inaugural exhibition for Sala 30 is entitled Cal·ligrafies convergents, and comprises a total of twelve pieces, all from the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Vicente Aguilera Cerni de Vilafamés (MACVAC). The exhibition has been designed to bring the modern trends of figuration and abstraction, which feature prominently in the museum’s collection, face to face in a two-way dialogue. The pairing of works by María José Ricós and Aurora Valero is a deep exploration of a study in grey and preference for curved shapes. Artists of the stature of Oswaldo Guayasamín and Antoni Tàpies create one of the most powerful pairings in the exhibition with two highly personal visions that swing between expressionism and informalism. There is also plastic art by Néstor Basterretxea and Ramón de Soto; as well as the kinetic art of Gabriel Cantalapiedra-Antonio Bellido and magical figuration by Pilar Carpio. The play of mirrors continues with Argentinian Ricardo Carpani, concerned with social themes, and abstract artist Beatriz Guttmann. The last pairing places Valencian artist Artur Heras opposite Carmen Grau. Visitors will be able to reflect on the discourses, compositions, materials, colours and shapes that separate and unite them like converging lenses.
