MADAM CHINO | SUMMER 2015 PRODUCT CATALOG WELCOME TO A NEW GENERATION OF RECYCLED T-SHIRTS. Our production streamlines a method of creating quality and consistent wearables from post-consumer garments by ACCOUNTING FOR variability in the existing fibers, and unifying them through new design silhouettes with experienced craftsmanship. We love that our product reveals the evolution of it’s story. It doesn’t feel right to deny that process, in humans or objects. our products are a perfect blending of modern and post-modern aesthetics that recognize the history of an object, while at the same time beautifying, simplifying and coalescing it. All items are soaked in an eco-friendly and antibacterial mixture of lemon, baking soda, and vinegar to disinfect and deoderize. Finished garments are presented inside out with prior graphics appearing on the interior of the garment. Colors are variable, sometimes within a single garment, due to previous wear and fiber content. Where some seams and hems are reused, they may appear inverted with coverhem stitches in matching thread appearing on the exterior. Scraps are sorted by color, type, and size, and new designs are created to implement what scraps are most plentiful at the time.

g g seaming & fiber content
Our garments use 100% pre-loved T-shirts, and change basic T-shapes into newer silhouettes and sizes, building on a previous layer with a new functionality for the shape. Garments can change drastically and many new seams are created and joined but most often the history of the garment is visible in the final product. Many smaller items are invented from areas of scrap left behind and built anew. We save energy by reusing the forms and previous seams. THREADS: WAISTBANDS: Armholes, sleeves, necklines and skirtings are 1/4” elastic piped into the cover-hem of the previskillfully SERGED AND coverhem finished for a ous T-shirt and presented “inside-out”. sturdy knit garment with smooth pressed edges using black dual needle straight stitching.
FLIPPED SEAMS: All of our edge facing interior seams are completed with a serger and the tails are flipped back into the seam and then topstitched with reverse straight stitches for secure washability.
COVER HEMS: COVER-HEMS ARE FLAT SERGE SEAMS DONE ON T-SHIRTS USED FOR WAIST AND SLEEVE ENDS. ORIGINAL COVERHEMS ARE DONE IN THREADS THAT PRESERVE THE MONOCHROMATIC COLOR SCHEME. NEW HEMS ARE CREATED IN BLACK THREAD.
GRAPHICS: Graphic shirts are flipped inside out to distract from the original shirt graphics. the fabrics, often causing some visible textures or fade-through. Lighter fabrics will usually show content.
FLIPPED HEMS: FLIPPING OLD COVERHEMS IS PART OF HOW WE REUSE SCRAPS. THESE ARE FOUND IN OUR NECKLACES AND AS DRAWSTRINGS IN OUR DESIGNS. OUR TUBES ARE TURNED AND TUCKED.
FIBER CONTENT: T-shirts are generally a mixture of both cotton and polyester fibers. Shirts cannot be guaranteed 100% cotton. Contact us if you have concerns regarding textile skin sensitivity. You may opt to send us your chosen shirts to use.
g COLORS
Pre-loved T-shirt colors are variegated within any single range based on previous wear and fiber content. Due to this variability, colors cannot be guaranteed by chroma-key. Buyers accept that there will be a natural difference in color, hue and saturation, due to factors of textile make-up, wear and age and that variations may be present within each individual piece. Additionally, lighter colors show previous graphics through back side of fabric, which is used in reverse whenever graphics are present, causing some reversed coverhem seams. Items on our shop are represented using these pantones, however, clothing actually combines many variations of a single color through the process of recycling. Some T-shirts leave behind sleeves which will be used on another design. Above pictures our current color selection of pantones. We always offer Black, Brown, White, Grey and Red, with five rotating colors each season. Please contact ahead with interest in a particular color. OVERVIEW // designs exhibit adjustability and flexibility using drawstrings, elastic, stretch knits designed to hug the figure unless fit is otherwise suggested. T-shirt fabric stretch fits within 2” of size indicated, so sizes run exact for slimmer fit. General adult sizes are listed for women’s measurements below in terms of widths using Full Bust, Natural Waist, and Full Hip. sizes are labeled using measures that are closest to a standard Misses Petite. Listings present measures for a standard medium. MEASUREMENTS // Inspect the chart and your figure by measuring with A tape measure. your measurements are consistent with the desired fit which is depicted in the actual product model photos. Lengths are presented as medium for each item in the individual product notes and change with dresses from size to size by 1” total: 1/2” on waist length and 1/2” on skirt length. Sizes are determined by widths shown in the listings below for between XS and xl. For Dresses, in the case that you fall into two different categories for top and bottom, purchase based on the top sizes and indicate the custom skirt size for no extra custom charge! Please read the following disclaimers before purchasing our products: 1) To ensure authenticity, all items are finished with black thread, despite the color of the article. 2) T-shirts are hand chosen for color, cleanliness, and lack of graphics, as well as tactile quality. However, not all shirts are graphic free, and not all colors are exactly alike. 3) Graphic T-shirts are reversed for unity of color and design, causing some variation: A) Reverse images may be partially visible through shirt exterior, B) Garments may include components of the pattern that may be the traditional back-side of the fabric or appear “inside-out” C) Interior threads of the pre-existing coverhem may be visible on the exterior of the garment when fabrics are reversed. 4) Colors are grouped together and minor variations in color will be present, even within the same garment. Many of our more complex garments are reconstructed from components of T-shirts that have been deconstructed, sorted, and recomposed to create your special item. That is part of how we stay zero-waste! P LACING ORDERS // All sales are made to order. Please allow up to 1 week for individual creations, and 1 week for inspection and shipping, totaling 2 weeks tops! All items should be chosen based on the color and size charts linked above, from the drop-down menus in the product listings when ordering. Upon recieving your order we will contact you individually to confirm your order and address, as well as provide an expected delivery date. Upon shipment we will provide you with a confirmation tracking number. PAYMENT & SHIPPING // Madam Chino accepts paypal. To set up a paypal account go to www.paypal.com. All shipments are made via USPS priority within the US and first class parcel international. You will be contacted with an order confirmation and expected delivery date upon the order and address before shipment, and after shipping with delivery confirmation and estimated delivery time. Our products are created using post-consumer recycled materials and vary slightly in color and fiber content.
