POSH HOTEL

Westminster’s most exclusive luxury hotel offers an experience like no other and an immersion into London’s rich culture. The design of the hotel’s interior is inspired by the concept of “posh”. Legend has it that upper-class British travelers would request to be on the port side out and starboard side home and receive the acronym “p.o.s.h.” stamped on their ticket. Posh Hotel features both traditional art deco and contemporary architecture and finishes to convey feelings of timelessness and elegance.

PROJECT GOALS

Fuse traditional and modern architectural styles to reemphasize the rich culture and history of London and pay homage to the historical landmarks within the city of Westminster

2 3

Utilize the concept to inform design choices and make the space feel unique, intimate and luxurious to provide guests with an experience that makes their stay in Westminster memorable

Connect the spatial layout, ff&e selections, and olfactory and auditory technology to engage all five senses and create a positive cognitive experience.

LUXURY STAYS

Sophisticated and elegant suites serve as a place for relaxation and refuge throughout guests’ stay in London. Posh’s suites contain a separate living and kitchen space, an elegant bathroom, opulent materials, and beautiful views of London’s skyline and nearby parks.

CONCEPT HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE IN LONDON

The design of the hotel’s interior will be inspired by the concept of “posh”. Legend has it that upper-class British travelers on their way to and from India would request rooms that were on the port side out and starboard side home. Therefore, they received the acronym “p.o.s.h.” stamped on their tickets. Today the word is defined as “elegant or stylishly luxurious”. Hotel guests will be spoiled with extravagant amenities such as an intimate bar and lounge, a traditional British tea room, and luxe guest rooms. The interior will be designed with traditional British architectural styles in mind that allude to the numerous historical landmarks while incorporating art deco and contemporary elements. Dark mahogany woods, velvets, dark hues, brass, and rich textures will be specified to create a moody yet elegant aesthetic.

CORE COMMUNITY CENTER

Many public spaces do not take into account the needs and abilities of individuals with physical, developmental or emotional disabilities. This can lead to those individuals not feeling a sense of belonging within society. The goal of this project is to design a community center that will revitalize the area surrounding Monroe Street in Tallahassee, FL and improve the well-being of the entire community, while concentrating on individuals with special needs. The social, physical, and psychological health of all occupants will be improved through the services provided and space itself.

Planting a seed and its life cycle is symbolic of a person’s journey with mental health and how it can all begin with one small step in the right direction. Eventually just like a seed grows into a plant, a person can grow into a better version of themselves. The clinic will serve as a place of growth, comfort, and inspiration for patients to find solutions, support, and a chance to start a path towards recovery. Caregivers, therapists, and psychiatrists also play crucial roles in assisting patients, therefore, the design must prioritize their needs as well. The design will promote safety, comfort, and functionality by creating a balanced layout, containing safe and comfortable furnishings, and providing adequate storage. Wayfinding tools provide a sense of control while positive distractions and privacy promote calmness. Natural materials and a relaxing color palette ground patients and reduce anxiety. The space will be a home-like environment that allows patients to grow freely.

FURN ITURE DESIGN

The goal of this project was to create a full size furniture piece of our choosing and learn more about joinery and fabrication. I chose to create a bar cart that will be utilized to store glassware, books, decor, and beverages. I began by analyzing the functions of a bar cart and sketching out ideas. Then, I utilized CAD to draft iterations of the design and joinery. To ensure the joinery would function properly, I tested out the design many times at a smaller scale using a laser machine. This allowed for experimentation with materiality. Then, I used VCarve and the CNC machine to cut out the full scale pieces. I sanded them, stained them, and assembled the final bar cart.
