ANIMATION
Yukai Du
Yukai Du is a Chinese animator and illustrator who currently works from the UK. The first of her work i came across were her animated ted talks. i thought the style is really unique and more illustrative than animation tends to be. something that had put me off the idea of animation before was the technicallity about it, the industry seems to be dominated with computer generated imagery. Du’s work has a hand drawn quality about it that i find apealing. I researched Yukai Du’s process from sketch to finished animation. The making of “can plants talk to each other?”
she starts with sketches to visualise her initial idea
storyboards:
colour frames to test the relationships of different colours together, and also to test composition
Still frames that she will animate in adobe premieire and after effects
Another example of her testing composition and colour. I am amazed at the way she makes drawings seem so liquid and can blend objects into each other really easily.
