Towards merged- in place Context synthesis defines project area as space in between three realities. From the side of the metro station, it is the recreational zone of Darsena. From opposite site, there is developing cultural and business district of Tortona. The challenge is to create a project of social diversity in a space that located on the borders of three heterogeneous areas. The Urban Grafting is in turning the place from in-between space to merged-in one. The concept of merging of possible “new with the actual pattern is achieved by creating a continuous green flow that will go through functional poles of the multipurpose hall with exhibition and hostel with sports center. Proposed public plaza and structures with public activities that embrace this open space. Merging strategy is also considers existing the bridge, will be used as kids play-cage. Thus, transition non-place is aimed to become attractive public spot.

THE CUT Trieste Cold War Museum Casarsa, ITALY 2018 Building Technology Studio Instructor: Luca Maria Francesco Fabris Enlight the path Cold War Museum Project is a part of requalification of the abandoned ex-military zone in Casarsa della Delizia, North East Italy. The main idea focuses on a concept of WINERGY that aimed to benefit from vinery agriculture in terms of energy production for the whole area. The region used to be deeply involved in military actions took place in past two centuries. Currently, it is one of the biggest military legacies and the major activity of the region is dependent on grape cultivation and production of sparkling wine – Prosecco wine. Project focus area is walled within 10 hectares of the land neighboring with vineyards and agricultural green lands. Three barracks were reused for Wine Museum and the rest of the site is aimed to be arranged in a new way, proposing a new structure for Cold War Museum and Eco-Hotel Complex. Cold War Museum building emerges from the landscape with green roof cover reminding the old bunkers that used to appear on the territories of countries involved in the Cold War. The morphological concept of Cold War Museum building is designed in a way to be as neutral with the site and adjacent existing structures as possible. Circulation recalls to the bunker experience, entering exhibition spaces visitors have to pass through narrow ways and disappear in shadow haze of fully dark spaces. The exhibition ends up in light high span pavilion with a spectacular panoramic view of the whole site.

AS FOUND Grand Hotel & Kindergarten Milan, ITALY 2018 Architectural design Studio II Instructor: Giancarlo Floridi Hybrid What is the image of contemporary Grand Hotel today? Looking backward, Grand Hotels emerged as “temporary aristocratic residence during tourism phenomena started to appear. Standing up among the heterogeneous urban fabric of cathedrals, medieval residential masses, classic social structures and modern fascist dominant, the hybrid of Hotel and Kindergarten should not stand out evidently, it should be consistent, but adorn oneself with fine clothes from exposed facades. At the same time as a hybrid, it also should be decent in communication with children. The new building arranged on the plot serving in two directions: exposed and posh hotel entrance and mirrored reserved and hidden kindergarten entry. Consistent fronts form enclosed open green space of hortus conclusus- safe and sound internal courtyard for children’s explorative activities. The formal approach is performed as a vertical container with central point defined by an atrium that allows daylight to flow down all the way long from top to bottom.
